Funnel is the way to go with the rice. I used more and had to maneuver the rice around to where the "dirt" was. The bottle is shaped like a flask so had flat sides. I think coarse sand would be good or aquarium gravel. Would be reusable and not pouring food down the drain.
I make it as I go sometimes with aspirin, sometimes not. With aspirin, drop 2 tablets into 6 oz cold water. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda. This will react with the acid in the aspirin helping to break down the tablets. Stir to speed up process. Add 1/2 tsp citric acid. The fizz will begin, stir gently and drink! No need for cornstarch or any sweeteners. Without aspirin, 1/4 tsp baking soda in 6 oz cold water then 1/2 tsp citric acid.
A pkg of dogs, Thai chiles (lots), mustard seeds, peppercorns, garlic seasoning, vinegar. All made at room temp. I let it sit out at for the first day, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Really good grilled and served cut up as a warm party snack or just stuff a hoagie roll with 2 grilled dogs and add your favorite toppings!
I've also pickled Spanish chorizo and breakfast sausage links. With all the vinegar I use, they can be stored at room temp. I have a jar of mixed sausages that have been "stewing" for 4 months. I thinks they may be ready now! Lol!
