I like it ! I have been turning and carving bowls for over thirty years and find inspiration from all sources, mathematical ellipses have been one source that has inspired me before, thank you for sharing your design. I think your idea of a rivet for fixing rings together would be perfect. Have recently visited Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain and wow !
