Intro: 3D Printed Spot Light Shelf

Quirky 3D printed lamp with a shelf to highlight a special trinket. It won't provide much support, so whatever is stored on the shelf can't be too heavy.

STEP 1: What You'll Need

3D printed parts

filler, paints and varnish- if you want to process your prints, if not, just print the parts in different colours

gorilla glue for plastics

1-2 12V LED strips

two wires or a repurposed cable (I used a cable from an old usb cable)

soldering iron

female connector https://www.amazon.co.uk/EFISH-Connector-Terminal-...

12V AC/DC converter

STEP 2: Clean Your Parts

I used a filler and sanding paper to get all parts, lampshade in particular, as smooth as possible.

This is optional of course, if you prefer to use raw prints, just print the shelf using yellow filament and lampshade in different colour.

STEP 3: Joint Both Parts

Mix small amount of gorilla glue and glue both parts together. Leave it to dry on a flat surface.

If you are going to paint it later, use a small amount of filler to cover the joining, smooth it with sanding paper.

STEP 4: Painting

Paint with acrylic paint, enamel paint of spray paint. Varnish if necessary.

STEP 5: LED Strips

Thread a cable through the hole at the top of the lampshade and then thread it through the small half-moon part.

Glue the LED strips to the half-moon part and solder everything.

Use glue to secure the half-moon with LED on the inside.

STEP 6:

Drill two parallel holes, 5.5cm apart, attach wall hooks or screws and hang the lamp.

I love this! It’s sooo cool! :D
Thanks a lot for the inspiration, what a cool shelf / light combo you made. My wife showed it to me and the day after I ordered some parts and started tinkering myself. I can tell you that it's inspired by this, but that it won't look like it at all. Will definitely share it once it is finished. But for now I'll just share a Work In Progress picture.
This is one of the most inspiring instructables I've seen in a while! Thanks a ton for sharing!!
This is so awesome! Would be great display shelves for actrion figures :D
