Alternative Holiday Tree

Intro: Alternative Holiday Tree

People are coming up with some clever Christmas trees instead of cutting down a live tree or using an artificial tree that you have to find a place to store the other 11 months of the year. My motto is "Use what you have" and I happen to have lots of books.

STEP 1: Supplies

You will need several books in all sizes, hardcover and paperback; whatever you can find.

You will also need Christmas wrapping paper and scotch tape. I used shiny green paper but any color will work.

1 string of Christmas lights, either clear or multicolored.

STEP 2: Cover the Books

You can either cover the books so that they can still be opened or wrap them like a present. I covered the hardbacks and wrapped the paperbacks. Doesn't really matter.

Do not tape the paper to the books. You don't want to end up tearing the book when you remove the wrapping paper after the holidays.

STEP 3: Stack the Books

Depending on how large you want your tree and how many books you've got to work with, Start with the larger books and continue piling them on top of each other.

You can place a small decoration on top of the tree at this point.

Add a string of lights around your tree and enjoy!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Rather than wrapping perhaps hang green sheets of paper from between the books (put the lights in as you work up)... you would have a weird broadleaf tree then...

Now, I need to go out and pick up green glass and make tree jewelry. That's the idea this gave me. Have Dremmel, do travel.

Very clever and original, nicely done!

Thank you, I did this a couple of years ago without the wrapping paper and it just looked like a stack of books. I like this much better!
