Apple Bacon Roses

Intro: Apple Bacon Roses

A rose by any other name smells even sweeter when it is made from caramelized apples and bacon!

STEP 1: Things You Will Need

Note: This recipe makes 3 apple bacon roses

1 Apple

6 strips of bacon

1/2 stick of butter

1/3 cup brown sugar

2 tsp Cinnamon

Baking rack (Important for draining excess grease while cooking)

STEP 2: Preping Your Apples

1. Core your apples and slice them into thin wedges about 1/8 inch thick. Make sure to cut them the right thickness. If you cut them too large, they will not fold well later on. If you cut them too thin, they will shrink and shrivel when cooked.

2.Melt Butter in a pan, then cook your apples on a low/medium heat until they are golden brown and are able to bend easily without breaking

3. Next add the brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir the ingredients until everything is mixed evenly, then set aside.

STEP 3: Wrapping Your Roses

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees

2. Lay your strip of bacon out on a flat work surface (You can do this in an assembly line fashion to speed things up a bit). Lay a second strip over the first so that about 1/3 of the original piece is covered.

3. Place apple wedges onto the strips of bacon so that the hump sets slightly higher than the bacon. Add additional apple wedges so they overlap each other about half way. Do this until there is about 2 inches of uncovered bacon left.

4. Carefully roll the bacon up, while gently keeping the apple pieces tucked in place. When the roll is finished, Place it upright and lightly push the apple pieces down, until you get a nice looking flower.

5. place assembled roses onto your baking rack, Then bake in oven for an hour and 10 minutes.

6. When they are done, take them out and let them cool for a few minutes, then coat them with the leftover butter and brown sugar if you like. (they look nicer without it, but taste better with it. It's your call).

7. Serve up your roses like a champ!

These are so sweet! Thank you for sharing this Instructable!

Wow! Must do; mouth watering.... hey, I have all these ingredients in my house right now. I think I'll impress the wifey when she gets home from work tomorrow night, if I can wait that long... I think it's time for a new online name!

well, I hope she likes them and good luck on your name change. I personally think your current name is fine, but since it's your name and you have to live with it, you should try to make it a good one that you will be happy with, no matter what other people tell you.

Thanks for the feedback. It's always nice to hear from people who have tasted one of my recipes and approved!

Hi ,

what can replace Bacon if somebody is vegetarian?

unfortunately the reason this works is the connective tissue in the bacon (the sane reason bacon wrinkles when heated) but there are many processes of cutting fruits and vegetables to make roses all you have to do is look up food roses on here (sorry but there are too many to list). my favorite is the strawberry rose.

Without being mean I must say, do not make them for veg heads. NOTHING else replaces American Bacon. You just have to be like an alcoholic, and understand and accept, this is simply NOT for me, it is over.

Bacon adds a something you can not define. Something that is very tasty with eggs is home made baked beans , you can get away from bacon and have a good dish, although, truth be told , if you add bacon to any baked bean recipe...it simply tastes better. Make really good baked beans, make sure it is thick add vegan smoked extract, here is a link for a flavor that both Vegans and Jews and other people with meat fetishes can use w/o fear of eternal damnation or a ticked off diety. And they do not taste fake.

After you make the BB's add tick slices of apples and maybe some peacans and heat until apples are soft but not mush. If you are going camping, use a can of vegetarian BB's and add dehydrated apple slices, then whole cubed apple, (dehydrated apple will absorb the excess liquids).

Sounds like an awesome way of making bacon.... My husband will be surprised, and probably confused, but this will be on his breakfast plate.

Hahaha in my country a "bacon rose" is a way of saying vagina xD

But nice recipe anyway, good luck in the competition.

LOL, it's shape, colour and the adherent leaves remind me of the things my neighbour's dog sometimes deposits in my garden :)

I guess my tag line for this recipe was more accurate that I previously thought. Anyways...Thanks for the support!

Yesssssssss.....voted and favorited, sir.

This is a project I can get behind!

We have "Bacon Rallies" amongst our friends. Essentially, it's a bacon themed dinner party. I'll be showcasing these. Thanks for sharing.

That is what I'm talkin bout!
