STEP 1: Introduction

Hello Friends.............

In this Instructable, I am going tell you how to build your very own satellite that can take pictures of earth, monitor the space environment and it consist of a telescope that can take picture of other planets.

STEP 2: Features

1.Telescope- A on board telescope attached with a camera take picture of other planets or galaxies

2.Remote sensing - A camera that that take picture of earth

3.Space Environment Monitoring- A bundle of sensors that collects data about space environment

All this outputs can be received by a computer

4.All this features for just 2000 USD

STEP 3: Telescope and Remote Sensing

1.Buy a telescope of your choice

Here, I am planed to buy a "Celestron Travel Scope (Compact 70 mm) Telescope

(165 x)" from Flipkart. It just cost about 85 USD.

2.Buy a UHF Camera

I've planed to but a mini UHF Camera like this one and It have an inbuilt transmitter and no need for external one.

It can transmit video signals at 8 different frequencies

I'm going to set it at 750 Mhz

My camera's Specifications:

Mini size camera, easy to carry

Supports up to 8 channels

Real-time color video and audio wireless transmission

Easy installationSupport display equipments which with UHF TV receiving function such as cell phone, TV, PC, MP4, digital photo frame, etc

Imaging sensor: CMOS total pixels: 704 x 576 (PAL)

View angle: 60 degrees

Transmission frequency: 600 ~ 800 MHz

Transmission power: 7 ~ 11dBm

Video modulation type: QAM(PAL)

Bandwidth: 13MHzMinimum illumination: 0.5Lux

Power supply: DC 5V

Built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery: 500mAhCharge time: 2 hoursWorking time: 1.5 hours

Unobstructed effective range: 120mDimensions (W x D x H): 23 x 66 x 23 mm

Operating temperature: -10 ~ 50 degrees Celsius

Operating humidity: 15% ~ 85% RH

All is well except one thing that is it's transmission power. It's transmission power is just 11 dbm and it's not enough to transmit telescope's video from lower earth orbit, At least we need 25 dbm to transmit video clearly. So I'm going to use a UHF power amplifier like this one from ebay.

It have ability to boost the signal from 11 dbm to 30 dbm, hence we can transmit the video clearly from space.

Just connect the camera with telescope and solder the signal cable of camera to booster and connect a high sensitivity antenna to output of booster.

Remote Sensing:

Attach a other camera with all setup like above and don't connect with telescope, just attach to to satellite as facing earth that it can take pictures of earth and transmit and Images can be used for remote sensing.

Setup this camera to transmit video at different frequencies. I am going Setup Telescope's camera at 750 Mhz and remote sensing camera at 650 MHz.

That's All

STEP 4: Space Environment Monitoring

Here, We are going to use Arduino.

Follow and complete this Instructable.

After completion connect the Tx pin of you Arduino to Rx pin of the transmitter like this one from Hobby King.

This is a half-duplex transmitter operating at 433 MHz with transmitting power of 20 dbm and also don't forget connect the booster which is used for telescope and remote sensing.

Receiver can be easily plugged into USB port if your computer and just install the driver.

Now, You can monitor the Space environment from any Serial terminal like Arduino's Serial Monitor at real time from space

STEP 5: Conclusion

Basically, I'm a Tenth Grade student from India Inspired to made a high performance satellite at Very low cost at my budget of 1000 USD.

I've designed all house keeping subsystem of my satellite like Power System, Attitude and determination control system and etc at very low cost.

If you vote for me in Arduino contest. I am able to get some stuff for my nano satellite.

Please vote for me, If I won in this contest I will share all detials of my satellite including design of each element and source code of arduino.

Don't forget to vote for me and please comment because if i won in this, after launching my satellite, I'll give instructions to how to receive data from satellite at rela time from space to who voted for me.

Please help me to make my dream real.

Excellent initiative, lots of success and I will be happy to help you with what you need
I will be very delighted if you explain it more .Please explain all the codes and designs and everything a bit more
Looks like you have almost overcome with all the obstacles of getting a satellite in low orbit and all the best for it. Remember it will anyway decay so you need to find a way to bring it down without atmosphere burn because batteries are risky and replace few components that decay ,. Or else they are either going to disintegrate in sheer external heat or just straight up die
I couldn't even find a single UHF camera on Indian market. I have a massive old satellite dish at home which was used before by our local cable but now abandoned so I took it and I have a transreciever. But my issue is the camera.
Can you help me find some UHF Cameras.

Maybe a joint project too.
I am studying EC engineering
Love you for ur success
is your organisation conducting any work shop in chennai?
Hey I'm ishu I'm working on time, light, and space researching on them..... So I try to make satellite so my question is which sensor and materials use to make cube satellite? Please reply because I want to make India first

congratulations buddy for ur hard work

ur dream has come true over past 3 years.

very nice, How you got this idea.

Great Design!!!

but how are you going to get it to outer space?

I asked help from my government and i hope they they will help me.

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR ME

जनाब कभी किसी की हेल्प करोगे तभी आपकी हेल्प कोई करेगा जीवन का यही नियम है

its sound interesting, will try!!
launching on to its orbit, will bit difficult but think isro have some shorts of plan for students that will definitely help.

Thank You So Much and I also voted for you.

You got a nice design going on here... keep doing what you are doing. I can see bright future for you. Hope you did well in public exams.
The pictures of some robots in step 3 what are those? just curious

Voted... hope you win..
Check out my 'ible in Portable Workstation Contest - Soldering Station using OLD PSU Case.

You Could use a Ballon to lunch it to orbit altitude and use monopropelant to put it in a almost stable orbit. Well... it would work on kerbal space program I think.

I have planed to get help from my government and i hope that they will help me!

I voted. This is a great project but I can only think that a rocket launching it into space would be rather pricey. There has to be some kind of hole in the ace here because if it is only $2000 why isn't everyone making one and launching it into space?
