Intro: Build a POG Thrower!

Here is a interesting intructable. It use POGs.
I am sure a lot of people are going to ask " whats the hell is a POG?"

POG was a game very popular in 1990's. Check the next step for details.

Here is something not robot related but extremely cool!

I first saw this projet in a little book from by libray about 12 years ago. I really don't remember when, I know that I was in Fredericton at Ecole Sainte-Anne, the only french school there. It was a small little book, 1/4 to 3/8 thick. It was dedicated to rubber band projects. It was based on funny and ugly rubberband caracters that where everywhere in the book. I remember 3 projects in that book, one that really suck, one that is ok and the last one is really a brillant idea. This is the one I will show you.

If you seen my beetle robot version 2, you know that I have rise my personal bar for the making of instructables and the quality of pictures.

ps- All the picures taken in this instructable where taken outside in a sunny day. NO editing was done!

I do have a video of the device in action, I need to do some editing. It will then be posted on youtube this week.

STEP 1: The Parts You Will Need

Here are the parts you will need :

1 x wooden clothes-pin
1 x elastic rubber band
Some old pogs ( remember those? )
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogs

The tools you will need :
1 x pair of scissors
1 x drills bit the diameter of the rubber band width.

To understand what POGs are here are the rules.

Here are the rules directly from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogs
The game can be played by two or more players. Each has their own collection of pogs and a slammer (a heavier game piece).
Before the game, players decide whether to play 'for keeps', or not. 'For keeps' implies that the players keep the POGs that they win, and forfeit those that have been won by other players.
The players each contribute an equal number of POGs to build a stack with the pieces facing down, which will be used during the game.
The players take turns throwing their slammer (also called a 'kini') down onto the top of the stack, causing it to spring up and the POGs to scatter.
Each player keeps any POGs that land 'face up' after their throw.
After each throw, the POGs which have landed 'face down' are then re-stacked for the next player.
When no POGs remain in the stack, the player with the most POGs is the 'winner'.
All players keep the POGs which they have collected (if playing for keeps), or redistribute them to their original owners.

It will bring back memories!

STEP 2: Drilling a Hole

You will simply need to drill a hole throught the clothes-pin.

You can start with a smaller drill bit and then finish with the a bigger one.

STEP 3: A Other Way to Drill

You can disassemble the clothes-pin to drill it.
This could help you out.

I took a smaller dril bit to make the first hole so I do not break the wood.

STEP 4: Passing the Rubber

You will now pass the rubber band through both hole you just made.

STEP 5: Getting a Got Grip on the Rubber

You simply follow these next few step.

Open the clothes-pin and get one loop in it.

STEP 6: Secure the Rubber on Top

Secure the rubber on top and do the same thing like the previous step.

STEP 7: The Throwing Appendice

Pull on the one of the two piece of rubber between the clothes-pin.
You will need to give some slack by pulling on the rest.

Give yourself a nice big loop.

To small and your pog will fly harder but you might break the rubber band.

STEP 8: Making the Weapon

Get those priceless pogs of yours.

You need to cut a V shape in them.

If your not old enough you probably don't know POGs!
Just take a peace of thick cartboard and cut circle out of it.

STEP 9: Ready

Your know ready to test your device.

You simply put the POG in the clothes-pin.

STEP 10: The Thrower Is Now Activated

Pull back on the rubber band. Remember to press and hold the POG in place. If you don’t the POG will ejected automatically.

You simply press down on the clothes-pin to hold down the POG, then you pull back the rubber band and insert it in the noch.

STEP 11: Ready to Fire!

Voila!

You are now ready to aim at your little brother.

Have fun!

do it in slow-mo

you should make a video of how to shoot it

I once made a video but never actually did anything with it. The thing was too fast for the camera (back then 640x480 video) I guest 120fps could be useful!
i had pogs when i was 5. i had no clue what to do with them lol
Where does it throw?
You'll shoot your eye out kid!!!
Im 13nand I know POGs. I was in an antique shop and there was a box full of them and they looked cool so i got it and started learning about them.
isnt it who is a pog???????????/
i m confused

at first in the 50s they were glass milk bottle tops (u know the ones that a milkman delivered back when milk was delivered and then the wife would...)
lol

so... back then, toys for kids were bikes, baseball bats, jacks and... what we call pogs!!
same principle but way older. they even made classic pogs to recreate the look and feel of prehistoric milk bottle caps

how to play...
1. put a stack of pogs in front of you (half yours and half opponent's)
2. take a metal, or plastic pog (slammer) and make it hit the stack. (it has to land flat on the stack otherwise it's cheating, way too easy!!)
3. the ones that flipped over are yours! (when you play for ante)

simple no?

my brother made a fortune selling his, and i still have mine!! lolol!! i have all purple official game pogs and a nice collection of fake ones, all mint! never played with them!
ooo i forgot... i have a pog of the pickup truck i drive now!! how lame is that??

i sprayed it with new car smell and it's hanging from my rear view mirror!
pogs are toys. and its really cool(people invented this thing called wikipedia, and if you go there, and type in for say "pog" i wonder what will come up" :) i never seen/heard of them.
Get off the internet right now. They are only the greatest things invented by man.
finally I have something to do with those relics of my childhood!
pogs. I remember them. We had a pog maker that you used to put pictures of yourself one them. They are AWESOME!
oops. It should be yourself on them sorry
ive heard of pogs but never seen them... but it wasn't in my time so ive got an excuse.
Jen avais tout plein des pug quand jétais plus petit:'( Mais jai ais tout vendu! Dommage, mais merci quand meme pour lidée jvais men construire avec du carton ou du petit metal! -Nick-
