Intro: Chalk Board Card

There is a new product out on the market that I want to try, and since I need to make my Valentine for my Hubby, I thought this might be a good time to try it. It’s called Chalk Board Vinyl, and I love it. So this is how I used it to create a Card for my Hubby for Valentines.

STEP 1:

Supplies:
Chalk Board Vinyl ($8 for 18” x 57”or 0.46m x 1.47m, I used a coupon)
1 sheet 8.5” x 11” (22cm x 28cm) white cardstock ($0.50 each)
White vinyl
Transfer tape
Computer with “Sure Cuts Alot” (They lost the law suit to Provo Craft)
Cricut Expression
Cutting mat
Bone folder
Scissors
Vinyl weeding tool (not shown)
Chalk (not shown)
Chalk eraser (not shown)
Ruler (not shown)

STEP 2:

Fold the white cardstock in half. This will be the basis of the A7 (5.5” x 8.5” or 14cm x 22cm) size card. An A7 envelope will fit this card.

STEP 3:

Cut a 5” x 8” (12cm x 20cm) piece of the chalk board vinyl.

STEP 4:

Center it on the front of the card, after removing the paper covering the sticky backing.

STEP 5:

I used my computer and the Sure Cuts Alot program to design the words I have chosen for this card in a fun font. I then used my Expression to cut the words out of white vinyl. I used the weeding tool to remove the unwanted parts from the vinyl and leaving the desired message.

STEP 6:

I covered the words with transfer tape and rubbed really hard with the bone folder.

STEP 7:

I pulled the transfer taped away from the paper backing and the vinyl words came with it.

STEP 8:

I centered the words on the Chalk board vinyl and then rubbed hard, again, making sure the words attached to the Chalk board vinyl.

STEP 9:

I then pulled away the transfer tape.

STEP 10:

Next, I took a piece of white chalk and rubbed it all over the chalk board vinyl.

STEP 11:

Then I took the chalk board eraser and erased the chalk.

STEP 12:

Now comes the fun part, using any chalk, doodle on the surface of the chalk board, be as elaborate or as simple as you wish. The inside is blank and leaves plenty of space for a personal note from you to your Valentine. Done! Enjoy!

I love chalk board art and have been trying to figure out how to do it with my poor penmanship (and without cringing when i think of the fingernail sound effect).

This is so clever and I will give it a try on my sillhouette. Do you have a source for (inexpensive?) chalkboard contact paper?

I got my 18 inch x 57 inch roll , by Imagination Station, at Hobby Lobby for $7.99 (I just checked the package) and I used a 40% off coupon I got at www.hobbylobby.com. So it cost $4.79 for the roll. I have already used some to make labels for storage jars. Love it. Your sillhouette will work great. If I didn't already have an Expression, I would have a sillhouette. Love my Cricut.
