Intro: Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Exclusive Battery Swap

Engine compartment showing the battery and parts surrounding it.

You should only need 10mm socket on 1/4” inch ratchet plus extension set as well as a flat blade
screwdriver for the plugs etc. and an Allen key for the electrics bracket and finally maybe a lever to help get the back battery clamp loose.

STEP 1: Lead Cover Removal

First off remove this cover from the positive terminal. Use a flat

blade screwdriver to open the two clips at either side of the terminal, lift a little and then slide it off towards you. Unclip the lead by simply lifting the lever then move it out of the way.

STEP 2: Remove the Multi Plugs

The two plugs are held in place by a “tag”.Press it down with a

small driver and lift up the white cover fully to let the plug come out and then gently take it out. Two to do and move out of the way.

STEP 3: Remove Cable

Press the tag down and the cable and holder will be able to be

moved out of the way. Ie. pull towards you and move under the plate out of the way.

STEP 4: Electrics Removal

Remove the two bolts holding the electrics in front of the battery.

The bracket has a “tag” on it and when the bolts are out, move the unit to the left to unclip the tag.You should then be able to lift the unit and put it out of the way.

STEP 5: Unit Moved Out of the Way

Moved

STEP 6: Remove the Steadying Bracket

Remove the steadying bracket for the electrics at the left of the

battery using an Allen key to take out the bolt and sliding the bracket towards you to slip it out of the holder. This will allow easier access to the battery.

STEP 7: Remove Battery Retaining Bracket

Remove the two bolts holding the battery retaining bracket. Note

the arrowed slot where the electrics bracket goes back in.

STEP 8: Finally

You can now pull the battery forward enough to get at the rear terminal and unbolt it with a 10mm

socket and extension. It can be a little tight and need some fiddling. The battery can now be removed.

After refitting, the date and time needed to be set but that was all.

I'm having issues removing the multi plugs. I lift the white tab up but the plugs are stuck solid and I can't get them out. Is it only this tab that holds them in place?
2015 citreon c4 grand Picasso
Thanks
Hi. All I did was lift the holder (white tag) and it swings over out of the way of the plug lifting. May be a good fit but worth trying a small lever to help.
This step by step guide is enormously helpful. It is very clear and easy to read and follow. Total job time 90 minutes. On my 2014 version of the C4 Grand Picasso Exclusive there was no need to detach the orange positive terminal lead cover. It just lifts up to disconnect the lead.
Thank you for posting it.
You are very welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
I have just used this method to swap batteries in my Picasso and it was spot on, thank you. I have one question though- my car is missing the 'steadying bracket' but do you know the proper name for it so I can source one please?
Sorry but I don't have the technical name for it.Maybe try a reclaimer site and show them the picture?
I'll make do with a cable tie until I can source one, as it's simply a case of stopping it rattling about, but thank you again for providing the method. I wouldn't have been able do do it otherwise.
Do you need to keep the car powered with a 2nd battery to avoid losing codes?
I did'nt bother. As far as I can remember the only things to reset were the date and the clock. Everything else stayed "active in the memory" as it were.
Hope this helps.
Thanks althesandie! Your guide is great...this will save me a lot of money that I won't now be spending at the local Citroen dealership. I'm amazed that this vehicle has the battery "tucked away" and that it's made hard to get at if you don't have this guide. Cheers mate!
Love seeing Citroen projects! Growing up my bff's dad had a bunch in their drive way!
