Intro: Custom Shirt With Nine-Hole Buttons

For Kieran's birthday, I wanted to make him a custom shirt. I didn't use a pattern, which is why I haven't made a full Instructable out of this, but copied one of his shirts to obtain the right fit.

I knew I wanted something extra special in the finishing details. Enter Steve Hoefer (member Ookseer) and his 9-hole buttons.

We met at the latest Instructables' Build Night at reMake Lounge. Steve had just finished up a batch of prototype buttons and had a few to show off. I immediately fell in love with them (haven't you?), and knew it was exactly what I was looking for.

After begging a few buttons off of him, I had to decide just how to use them. I put Kieran's initials on his cuffs, and chose the word Aspire for the front. I want Kieran to know that his dreams and aspirations are close to my heart, and that he has my endless love and support.

I hope you enjoy the following pictures of the shirt and the buttons. A special thank you to Steve for providing just the right amount of magic to make this a truly one-of-a-kind gift.

Are these buttons for sale, you ask?? Go harass Ookseer, and you might just get your wish!

I was admiring your shirt earlier in the morning prior to posting our first Instructable. The tailoring is lovely, and the buttons make it even more tres dapper. I want to make the buttons myself, but know I do not have the patience. *sigh*

And I know how difficult it is to get a shirt pattern just so!
Oh pleaaaaaaaaaase, Schooch, I am not getting this and I hesitate to ask because I don't want to critisize in any any way...Is the point here that you made your own shirt and added custom buttons? I love the "Aspire" message. xxooLyn
Just a show and tell. I know I usually provide detailed instructions, but this time I decided to take advantage of the slideshow option that Instructables provides as a way to show off your latest projects, even if you haven't created a full on instructable! Also I wanted to feature the 9-hole buttons that Ookseer made and pave the way for his upcoming slideshow on how he made them!
Ahhhhhhhhhhh the old "show and tell" Right on Schooie ;0)
I think a shirt like this is worth several instructables... offhand, the cuff plackets, the fitting, shoulder/yoke options, collar. Plus of course, the overall How To Make A Tailored Shirt. Beautiful work!
You did such an amazing job on the shirt I was more than happy to provide the buttons. An amazing gift.
Yay! I'm happy you're pleased :) I hope you get a million people bugging you to make some for them.
me again...did you know that if you tape a pattern onto a pumpkin, poke holes with a heavy duty needle along the lines, remove the pattern and then wipe flour over the holes that the holes show up really well?
GinnyL shows cool ways to repurpose existing clothing. Have you ever watched her videos? They are amazing.
What a great idea! I love this and I will try.
Tell me what you want the lantern to look like & I'll do it. L
I don't know. . . probably like one of my profile images!
You made this shirt without a pattern? I'm so impressed. This is a great gift idea and not just filled with love and thoughtfulness but well executed. Cool!
Thanks! I wish now I'd made a pattern so I could whip out a few more!
