Intro: DIY Dining Table

The particular structure is for the lovers of natural wood in combination with metal that we used to create a dinner table.

This dinner table is distinctive due to the large sizes of the materials used as well as for the metallic frame and the pieces of wood. Its metallic frame is consisted of square tubes of 100mm x 40mm x 2mm, 2.20m length, 80cm width and 63cm height.

As for the wood used for the particular table to cover its frame, is from a Cypriot Pine tree that was uprooted due to bad weather conditions and soil erosion five years ago. The two pieces of wood used for the frame are 1m width, 2.20m length and 12cm height.

STEP 1: Materials - Technique

The metallic frame of our dinner table was coloured in matte black after it had been made in grains in order to achieve a better adhesion of the paint. Then, these two pieces of wood were connected and glued together on their two processed surfaces that were straightened to reach the best possible outcome of welding without any spaces. To empower the welding of the two points of the surfaces that were connected, we increased not only the quantity of the glue used but also we placed more layers of wood. The two edges of the table remained to the shape of the tree.

STEP 2: Wood Finish

What makes this dinner table to stand out is the use of IROKO wood that was placed at the two edges of the table. Also, on the top of the table, a small, rectangle shaped piece of IROKO wood was placed to carve our team’s logo and the name of our channel on youtube as well as the structure’s number. Regarding the ending of the wood was made with colourless wood varnish.

This table was made to last for many years as the large sizes of its materials make it perennial. Additionally, on the bottom of its legs, we placed small floor mats to avoid damaging them in case of moving!

STEP 3: Weight

The only disadvantage that we can point out for our structure is its excessive weight as it weighs about 240kg. However, this should not be considered as a serious problem as it was made for a specific place at home and not to be moved around.

STEP 4: Video

In the end of the day, another special structure has been completed and it is ready to be added in our collection!

Awesome I plan to do something similar based on your instructable but a bit longer (8 persons)

How many persons came help you to transport this table ? 4 is enough ?

If you had something to change on it what would you improve ? Thank you for your feedback

absolutely stunning table :)

absolutely stunning, awesome build.

How did you make the transition from fallen tree to debarked and ripped mega boards? Do you own an industrial sawmill or something? I love everything about this table and I would love to have one of my own!

Awesome old wood, but your heavy design makes it hard to sit at the ends. There is a theory of furniture design, that it must be plenty strong enough to do its intended task, but no need to support a truck. I'd like to see a design that allows people to easily sit at the ends of the table. I think you love to weld!

It's very nice! It mush weigh a ton.

I think this might be the first time I ever post a comment but I got really excited to see another Cypriot woodworker. Beautiful table!

Awesome! That is a beauty! Your welds looks really good, By the way!

I'm just thinking-- If you even want it to move around, You can add those big wheels/casters that can lock...
