Another simple and quite ingenious instructable. I'm being completely serious. If people did this all around the world it would eliminate so much waste and you are right, every little gadget on here that uses batteries could be improved by having a self-sustaining cell like this to power it. I have seen something similar before but this is the best design I have come across. I love it and will be sharing it for sure. Also, I live in Florida and we were out of power with no generator for almost 2 weeks. We eventually got a generator once The American Red Cross shipped in a bunch. This idea right here would have powered my little FM radio I slept with and kept a light on for safety. Just, amazing. Thank you for sharing this. :-)
Didn't look like the youtube sites made it thru, but it's at YouTube. Also have you read nikola tesla treasury, by nikola tesla. It's $1 or so on amazon kindle app. Great stuff in wireless eletrical. If you make any heads or tails from it in an applied way, let me know.
Practical if you only need to power up a calculator! I doubt you could get any appreciable current out of this to power anything useful. If you are interested in getting every last drop of power out of a battery look into the joule thief.

hey, thx for the modern design of the Baghdad Battery. Check these sites out. Think 2 rods might be better and a bigger design like the sites.

salty water- 3 hrs
vinegar- unknown (more than that of salty water)
