DIY Large Bow Capelet
Intro: DIY Large Bow Capelet
Make this beautiful bow capelet for yourself this winter or as a Holiday gift for the special ones. This ible will show how to make this large bow capelet in few easy steps.
STEP 1: Materials Needed
To make this capelet you'll need:
- Fleece fabric - (2 yards),
- Chalk,
- Scissor,
- Sewing machine,
- Needle and thread.
STEP 2: Measuring and Cutting
Measure the width and height for the neck. Subtract 2 cm from both measurements.
Measure how long you want the cape to be and add 2 cm extra to it. Mine was 15 inches so I had to cut 16 inches.
Cut out a piece out of the fleece fabric, its width should be double the length of the cape and length should be exactly the length of the cape. I had to cut 32 X 16 inches fleece fabric.
Fold the fleece fabrics' width into half. Use a chalk to mark the neck and the main pattern of the cape (see picture). Cut along the marked lines. Similarly cut 3 more pieces. You can use a different fabric for the lining but since I wanted a real warm capelet I used the same fleece fabric for the lining.
After cutting the neck and main pattern of the fleece unfold them. Take any one of the 4 pieces and place the fleece fabric (unused) under it. Mark and cut out a rectangular piece out of it making sure its width is 3 inches more than the cape's width. This piece will be used to make the bow. Cut another small fleece fabric for the center piece of the bow.
STEP 3: Making the Bow
Take the 2 large rectangular pieces and sew along the longer sides and keep the other to ends open. Turn the right side out.
Take the small piece, fold it length-wise and sew along edge. Turn the right side out.
Create folds on the center of the large piece and secure the folds by wrapping it with the center piece.
Stitch the ends of the center piece to secure the wrap.
STEP 4: Sewing the Back Piece
Place the main piece and the lining together with their right sides facing in.
Sew along the neck and the outer edge.
Keep both sides open. Turn right side out through any one of the open ends.
STEP 5: Sewing the Front Piece
Place the main piece on a flat surface, place the bow on it as shown in the picture. Make sure that the edges of bow matches the edges of the main piece nicely,
Now place the lining piece appropriately.
Sew along the neck and the outer edge, keeping both sides open,
Turn right side out.
STEP 6: Sewing the Sides
Place the front and the back piece together and sew their sides together 2 times.
Turn the right side out and the cape is ready! You can sew a another line along the neck and the bottom of the cape if you want to. You can different colored fleece for the bow for a different pattern. This capelet is really warm and can be great as Holiday gift! Grab some fleece and make one!
Enjoy :)

So is the bow on the front or the back? Is there any fastener at the neckline?
