Intro: Egyptian Shorek

Shorek is a bread like pastry but a lot sweeter. It is great in the morning with a cup of tea for a fresh start

STEP 1: Ingredients

- you will need for the pastry:

5 cups of all purpose flour

1 cup of granualted sugar

pinch of salt

tbsp of active dry yeast

pinch of vanilla

1 cup of butter

1 cup of milk

2 eggs

- for the topping mix some milk with sugar

STEP 2: Make Your Pastry

1- first mix all your dry ingredients flour, sugar, salt, yeast and vanilla

2- add butter to make crumbles

3- add eggs and mix

4- add milk gradualy till you obtain soft pastry that doesnt stick as shown

you must leave the pastry to rest for at least 20 minutes before forming it

STEP 3: Form the Pastry

1- make long and thin bars

2- roll it around and stick its end to the bottom

3- place them on a greased baking pan

4- add milk on top and sprinkle some sugar for a better look

Notes:

some people add cinnamon, sesame or rasins on top

you can leave them for an hour in a warm place before baking them for more airy and light shorek

STEP 4: Enjoy !!

After 20 minutes in the oven , you can enjoy warm and soft shorek with a cup of tea :)

Can you please tell me what oven temperature you used to bake the shoreks? Thank you.

We don't really have temperature set oven :D so meduim heat will be okay
