Emergency Salsa Surgery- Canned/jarred Salsa Makeover
Intro: Emergency Salsa Surgery- Canned/jarred Salsa Makeover
It's impossible to beat the taste of fresh, homemade Salsa from scratch... but with a few fresh ingredients, you can perform Emergency Salsa Surgery and resuscitate ANY brand of jarred or canned Salsa, making it TASTE homemade.
What to add?
There are several options listed below, but this list is not all-inclusive:
Diced fresh Tomatoes. They will also cool the heat if your salsa is too hot.
Diced fresh Onions- Green, red, yellow, white or all 4!
Fresh corn, cut from the cob. (Canned corn works, too!)
Canned Chipolte Peppers- mince one or 2... add a T of adobo sauce, too. Chipotle is a warm Chile and the seeds are HOT.
Finely diced fresh salsa Chiles, such as Anaheim, Poblano or Jalapeno.
Chopped fresh Cilantro... YUM!
Canned black beans (rinsed)
Minced Garlic
Crushed Red Pepper
Chili Powder
Salt to counteact any undesireable sweetness
The Emergency Salsa Surgery I performed on a top-rated brand of Salsa took all of 3 minutes. I used fresh tomatoes, 1 red jalapeno pepper, canned corn, minced chipotle w/adobo and fresh cilantro.
You see the before and after pictures... there's a bowl of warm, crunchy Tortilla Chips waiting ...
which Salsa would you rather scoop into?

It's chipotle, not chipolte. You got it right the second time around. It's pronounced chip-oat-lay. Not chip-pole-tay. Just so everyone knows! I love the flavor, I love it in salsa, and I love your ideas for salsa surgery. So many things need it. I picked up some Bronco Bob's roasted raspberry chipotle sauce at World Market on Wednesday. I put some in my own fresh homemade salsa yesterday. I'm going to have to order at least a 6 pack to do surgery on a lot of things now. Dang addictive stuff! My next trial will be using it on my corn & black bean salsa.
