Intro: Get Rid of Those Pesky AAA Cells!

Totally frustrated with carrying around dozens of rechargeable AAA cells just to keep one mp3 player happy, I did a "Macgyver".

1 * D-Cell Holder
1 * Piece of cable from ruined earphones

I just hard soldered it together and locked all the wires down with hot-melt glue.
The battery goes in a pocket, the mp3 player clips to my collar and it's no more awkward than those mp3-interrupters that people use on cell-phones.
In two years I've only used two D-Cells. I would call that a $ignificant $aving.

Everytime I go through an airport with something like this I wonder what questions I will be asked. About ten years ago I traveled a few times each year with a CD MP3 disc player. It sounds uneducated, but I did not yet understand the purpose and use of the HOLD button. I was listening my way through a German audio Bible and did not want to lose my place, so I cut the bottom 3/4 inch from a coffee can and the top 3/4 inch from the same can. Then I joined these two pieces together with braze so I could slip my player inside and snap on the plastic lid. It was quite effective, but did generate some questions at airport security.

The "Hold" button or switch, locks all the other buttons so that you don't bump anything once you've set it running how you want it. Unfortunately it fails to "hold" the charge in the battery!

I discovered the purpose and use of the HOLD button later and was surprised device instructions did not discuss how to use it.

they have bomb sniffing dogs and other explosive detection equipment. let them do a quick swipe of your junk and they will know if its a bomb or just a project.
You might be held up a little bit and have a few liberties violated but at least you can board the aircraft.

Given that the only item purchased specifically for the project was the D-cell and everything else was "what can be found around here?", that is fully what I intend---when it opens!
