Using your electric mixer, beat the butter on high until it's fluffy.

STEP 4: Time to Sweeten It Up

Add in the sugar and continue to mix on high for 2 minutes.

STEP 5: 2 for One Step

Add the eggs in one at a time.

STEP 6: It's Zestfully.......time to Add That Zest In.

Now blend in that orange zest.

STEP 7: Getting Those Dry Ingredients Together.

Now in a separate blow, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.

STEP 8: A Little of This, Then a Little of That, Then Back to a Little of This, Then Back to a Little of That...

Now alternate with adding the dry mixture, then the buttermilk both A LITTLE AT A TIME to the electric mixture until everything is mixed together.

STEP 9: Almost Finished!

Spray a bread pan with nonstick cooking spray and pour the dough into the bread pan.

STEP 10: Bake!

Cook in an oven that's been preheated to 350° for 45-50 minutes, or until it's done in the center.

STEP 11: Cool Down!

Remove the bread pan from the oven and cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes.

Then remove the bread from the bread pan and cool on the wire rack for an additional 15 minutes.

STEP 12: Yummy Glaze

To make the glaze, combine 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp orange juice and the powdered sugar together.

STEP 13: Nooks and Crannies

To make the glaze seep down into the bread a lot, you can poke tiny holes with a tooth pick before pouring the glaze on.

To juice and grate oranges/lemons easier, heat in the microwave for 20 to 40 seconds.

Grate first, then juice! If your recipe only calls for juice, grate the fruit first and save the zest for future cooking.

This looks fabulous but can I get recipe on one sheet of paper ? thanks
Too sweet... can I reduce sugar from the mix? Or have 50-50 with Stevia? Thanks! Yayo
Please, may someone tell me what "c" mean, for example: "1 c buttermilk", thanks a lot.
Sincerely, Pedro Layana Pino.
"C" stands for "Cups". So 1 c buttermilk means 1 cup of buttermilk.
Sounds Delish.
What is Powdered Sugar? Is it what we in UK would call Icing Sugar or Caster Sugar?
Thanks. Going to try this at the w/end.
Why don’t you add utensils?
Why are both baking soda and powder necessary? What do each contribute and when in the baking process?
Paraphrased, but here you go: It's because there's enough baking soda to neutralize the acid in a recipe, but not actually enough to lift the batter. Adding a little baking powder will give the extra lift needed. You could use baking powder alone, but then your finished baked treat might taste too acidic.
Just emailed this to my wife. She's the baker, I'm the dish washer. I'm totally gettin' orange bread tonight! Thanks.
YUMMMM . This looks delicious and I will make it on my cheat day.. Wonder if you could try to make this low carb so I don't have to wait? I have baking mix called carbquik it's like Bisquick but only low-carb. If I come up with anything I will let you know and if you come up with anything please let me know thank you!
That would be awesome if it does work, if you try it the low-carb way, please let me know if it worked!
I love orange bread, but also try to use ingredients that I can use elsewhere - I can substitute yoghurt for buttermilk (or just add 1 tap lemon juice to any milk) - any acid to activate the baking soda is the key, correct? I'll try this recipe, but does anyone know a recipe for Orange or Lemon bread that will give similar results by adding all ingredients (in a specified order) into a single bowl, preferably mixed by hand? I believe Krusteez and others have "almost good" dry mix....but are too sweet and not nearly as flavorful as this bread must be.
This looks delicious. Great photos, very nicely presented. Gonna have to try this one! :)
