Intro: How to Make Pickled Onions

The perfect condiment to so many things - sandwiches, pizza, salads, cheese, pasta....this hit of acid makes the rest of the meal taste even better.

STEP 1: Ingredients

You will need:
Red onions, thinly sliced
some salt
some sugar
vinegar (any kind, but I prefer white)

STEP 2: I Have My Ingredients, Now What?

In a glass bowl, preferable with an airtight lid, place sliced onions, a spoonful of sugar, and a smaller spoonful of salt.

STEP 3: Time to Pickle

Pour vinegar all over the onions, until they are fully covered by the vinegar.    Give a quick stir.  Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours.

STEP 4: PICKLES!!

Serve with anything you like - salad, burgers, sandwiches, cheese.....a delicious addition to any meal.

Oh, I used to do this and forgot about it. I will have to do it some more.
I've always pickled my onions (and boiled eggs) in leftover pickle juice...
Good to have an actual recipe!
I know that pickling is for food preseveration - in a sterile, air-tight jar, how long would these last?
What a lovely pink color the onions turn!!!
