Intro: How to Mount a GoPro to an M1A2 Abrams Tank

This Instructable is simple yet effective.

STEP 1: Selecting a Spot for Your Camera

First you need to decide where you want to mount your camera. It all depends on what you are doing/ the angle for the video you want.

I chose a spot on the front of the gun mantle next to the gun tube, so this Instructable will be geared towards that spot. Yes these are the names of the parts.

STEP 2: Parts/tool List

This list is all i had used to mount my GoPro Camera.

You will need:

1-M1A1/M1A2 Abrams tank

1-Philips screwdriver, leatherman, or gopro screw tightener

1 or more-GoPro camera/s with housing/s

1-GoPro Wifi Remote (recommended for ease of use. without one the video would have to be really long or someone would have to jump in and out of the tank to activate the camera.)

1-3-Way Pivot Arm

1-Long piece from the 3-Way Pivot Arm

1-Screw and nut, these must fit the GoPro mounts. I used the nut from a tripod mount and a screw from a mount screw.

3- GoPro mount screws

STEP 3: Assembly

How to assemble the mount just follow the pictures.

STEP 4: Mounting the Camera

The last mount just gets pushed through the mount on the gun mantle.

STEP 5: Complete

Congratulations now go get some awesome footage.

I love it when people do stuff like this. I wish i could hit the I Made It! button but the only tank I'll probably ever get to own is a 20lb propane tank :) Thank You for your Service

Thanks for the tip! I'll put my GoPro on my tank as soon as I get home.

Where can I find the Abrams? I'm on a 30 dollar budget so please find a good place with free shipping

lol.

that is so cool.

Did u hit your target at the range? I couldn't tell.

btw: thanks for ur service

I didn't get to shoot. My job is to drive the tank while our units NCOs teach new Lieutenants how to be tank commanders.

But during AIT I got to shoot and I hit all three of my targets.

cool.

nice instructable too

OMG! Stop teasing all of us Soldier and hit that upload button Extra ASAP.

I can't wait to see how the camera handles the shock of firing the gun.

Get to it young Man!

when would a normal U.S. citizen be mounting a camera on a Abrams?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Most U.S. soldiers are U.S. Citizens. Whether or not they are "normal" varies by individual, haha! Any excuse to post video of an enormous explosion is a good excuse. Especially when that explosion sends a big fat hunk of screaming death downrange at a speed that can be described as a percentage of Escape Velocity. With about 10,000 M1 variants in service in the U.S, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Australia and Iraq, there is likely about 30,000 people who get to play with M1's every day. This 'ible could also be adapted for use with other armored vehicles, tanks, APC's, Mobile Artillery, etc., both in the U.S. and around the world. If we count those people then that number would easily be more than a quarter-million. Now, that number is a wild guess. I haven't actually done any research. I wish there had been something like a GoPro and the Internet back in the olden days, when I worked as a gunner on a Bradley.

Scouts OUT!

Dang it, I just traded my Abrams for a Larsen bow rider boat because it already had the GoPro mount on it....

Great Instructable!! Thanks for posting.

I think the GoPro people owe you some money, If that isn't an advertisment for 'super rugged construction' I don't know what is.

Best instructable ever!!
I thank all of you for protecting us and our country!
There are some magnetic mounts available. Guess these would work out great on a tank
