Intro: How to Back Up Your Usb Stick or Camera to Your Android Phone

I have just got myself an android phone. and I have just found a way to back up my camera to the phones memory card.

STEP 1: Items Needed

to do this you will need.

your android phone.
usb cable.
Usb data copier ( I used a syncbox)
usb card reader. (or camera and usb cable)

and some memory cards.

STEP 2: How To

plug your usb stick, camera or card reader in to the left hand usb socket on the usb syncbox.
connect your phone to the right hand usb socket as shown.

on the android phone set it to usb drive mode.
this can be selected from the notification bar at the top of the screen.
then select Mount.

Or you can use the mountusb software which makes this easier.

press the copy button on the syncbox and your files will be copied from your camera to your phones memory card.

open the folder sync001 which has been created on your phones memory card.
and you will see your files.

I use ES file explorer to browse files on my android phone.

STEP 3: Extra Notes

I have tried doing this using a memorex travel sync. But So far I unable to get the travel sync do work with the android phone.

Can I connect my external harddrive to this? And connect my camera to the other end to transfer photos and still have same picture quality?
Hi

I have already tried cutting the power cable and just using the data lines. but this didn't work. because the phone didn't detect being connected to the travel link and the travel link still didnt detect the phone. I also tried powering the phone from a external USB supply, while the data lines were connected to the travel link. the phone detected being connected but the travel link was still un happy. next Im going to try powering the travel link from an external supply. the bigest problem is the travel link uses 3 aaa battery for power which I think is not quite enough. I think it will work better from a 5v supply.

I will let you know if i manage to get it working.

A bit late on your comment, but try connecting the USB ground wire to the travel link ground. I've had related issues before with USB and floating earths.
can someone send me the serialport dll? thanks a lot!!! (rice103@gmail.com)
Seems Amazon is all out of "mobile data copiers"
and I couldn't find one on fry's.
Radioshack maybe?
I'd prefer NOT to import directly from China, just to test my theory:-(

PS, is that a Jay Leno Chin model?

"Note I have been trying to get this to work with the memorex travellink but so far I have not been able to get it to work. the problem is the phone draws to much power from the copyer. I am in the process of trying to find a solution."

Easy solution, as long as you don't mind mutilating the phone-usb cable.
Cut the power lines.
Just outright remove them from the equation.
The phone SHOULD still work with the data wires. And rely on internal battery for power. This may vary depending on the phone though. My samsung Moment works just dandy using only data wires to transfer files to the pc in "USB Drive" mode.

I learned this trick from an old external 2.5" drive(case plus my old laptop harddrive). The usb cable had a usb plug(drive end) and TWO usb plugs(device end). A multi-meter showed that it's 5 volt wires were hooked up in both device end plugs, but data only on one plug.
This is important, as my media player only had ONE usb port... and not enough oomph to power the HDD. I cut the power lines to my new "data only" plug, and supplied the required power with a usb-universal-switching-adapter designed for charging cell phones(free with my last cell phone).
