Intro: Making Your Own Adhesive!

Adhesives are everywhere, from cars to TVs and even in laptops and mobile phones. You can say it's what bindshumanity together. It's not that you don't get glue at the supermarket, but what if you wanted to make it yourself? After all, DIY is all about making it yourself. So today I'm going to make super strong adhesive out of two very simple ingredients.

Here's what we will need:

  • Water
  • Finely-milled wheat flour or All purpose wheat flour (Maida)

That's it! Let's get started!

STEP 1: Mixing the Ingredients

Mix one tablespoon of flour for every 50 ml of water. Then, stir so that no lumps are formed. Once that is done, heat the mixture. Let it boil for a few minutes. Stir occasionally. Slowly, you will notice that the liquid begins to form lumps. When the whole thing become one huge lump, turn off the heat. Your adhesive is ready!

STEP 2: Done!

You can use small portions of the lump as adhesive.

Note: The glue can be used only as long as it is hot. Once it cools down, it is going to set into a hard mass.

Hi!

As a modeller, I was looking around how to make ADHESIVE (to paper) a plastic surface (like styrene). I found your interesting 'ible ad I was wondering if it could be used for this purpose.

I was thinking to make that 'goo and spread it over the styrene sheet using a card and then apply the printed piece of paper.

Also wonder if your solution could loose it's adhesiveness during time, let's say: years.
