Intro: Make Watermelon Juice With a Drill and a Coat Hanger

I did this at TechShop Menlo Park. http://www.techshop.com

I
t is a HOT Friday at TechShop Menlo Park and everyone is sweating and working hard on their projects. Some watermelon juice sounds great but how do we make it with what we have around? :)

STEP 1: Supplies

We found a large watermelon, a coat hanger a drill, a strainer, some ice, a bowl and some cups. That's all we need.

STEP 2: Cut a Small Hole

Cut and remove a small hole at the top of the watermelon.

STEP 3: Shape Hanger and Insert Into a Drill

We shaped the hanger to resemble a whisk and popped it into a drill.

STEP 4: Drill the Watermelon

Insert the coat-hanger into the watermelon hole and drill all around hitting the sides and getting to the bottom.

STEP 5: Strain

Into a bowl over a strainer empty contents of drilled watermelon.

STEP 6: Enjoy Your Juice

Pour over ice and serve fresh and chilled. :)

I LOVE Watermelon juice! Although, I've never actually had a glass filled with authentic watermelon juice, in my early adult life, I did have it after a bottle of vodka turned upside down had been allowed to seep inside it for 24 hours! I'm now older and wiser with grandchildren, but just ice cold watermelon juice and chunks of watermelon is sooooo refreshing!

love it!!! great job...

Weighing in on this about a year later. What really stands out, is the respect the ibilator gets when some of the biggies of Instructibles make great remarks of one"s efforts. Sometimes the comments are funny or useful. The remarks are like mini ibles. There is generally a great or high amount safety concerns and I am all for safety first. Thanks.
u can add vodka to it, ether to the juice or, take the top of as abuv, stic a funnel into the melon, poor the vodka into the melon and serve it as a starter! (good for a dinner with the in-laws, u cant taste the vodka;-)
hope not used the colour mixer before for mixing colours...personaly i wouldn't try it but its ok if you want some quick results and dont have any juicer.
Awesome! This is why I come to instructables, Outside the box, make it happen now, with what ever you have laying around the house!!! And it tastes good too!
And probably a good idea when you disturb me watermelon, add the fruit or drink each. We have watermelons appeared. We try to mix.
Like the idea, and also a very nice/concise presentation.
Also I would take Quester55 suggestion into perspective.
Keep up the good work.
But who likes watermelon juice...YUK !!!!
I'd like to see it done with grapes or currants.....
like said.... coat hanger? use a paint mixer! and also like said... don't forget the vodka! aqua fesca is good, I would use proper simply syrup made from a 2:1 ratio and lemon juice, and rum would be good but cachaca (brazilian cane sugar rum) would be better, brighter flavor that wouldn't muddle the watermelon juice flavor.
Add a little lemon juice and sugar, and you've got an agua fresca. Yum! The best "icee" I ever had was made from pure watermelon juice from a freeze-machine. Thanks for the instructable idea!
Cured varnish is non-toxic.
Sounds good, Looks even better, You might mention that you should use a Non-Varnished coat hanger, or you'll be ingesting tiny bits of toxic Paint with every cup.
I find a Clean mini-whisk does an even better job and it's made of stainless steel.

F.Y.I. For more great fun, after juicing the melon, look up how to make Watermelon Wine. Great for those Hot week-ends .
I've always use a metal 1 gallon paint stirrer [chrome plated], which is remotely similar to an eggbeater. Works like a charm. Don't forget to add a little/lot of Vodka/Rum. Coat hangers are coated.
Great idea! On top of that, I also love the way your instructable pictures showing in one page, it's so easy and nice to see all.
