Open a Sweatshirt

Intro: Open a Sweatshirt

I had this nice sweatshirt, but it was kid's size. Normally, if the size is for 12-14 years old, it is good for me. This was littler ;D So, given that I often wear sweatshirts without closing it, I decided to open it to use it.

Of course this can be done with sweatshirts of a right size!!

This was my mom's idea.

Please, vote this 'ible in the contests, if you like it!

STEP 1: Iron the Crease

Iron the sweatshirt flat, than fold it in two and iron the crease really well. It has to be visible when you spread the sweatshirt out.

STEP 2: Mark the Crease

Mark the crease with a chalk.

STEP 3: Cut

Cut on the line. Pay attention to cut precisely and as straight as possible.

STEP 4: Iron the Hem

Fold the hem (1 or 2 cm) and iron it. You can baste it with thread or pin. I didn't baste it, I sewed it directly with the sewing machine.

STEP 5: Sew

Sew the hem. If the sweatshirt has a big front pocket like this one, it will be automatically transformed it two lateral pockets in this step.

STEP 6: Zipper

Sew the zipper and enjoy your work. :)

Excellent ible. I think almost everyone one of us has a pullover we could add a zipper to for a better fit. I like the pop of red from the zipper. It gives it a nice contrast.

Thank you :) Yes, I like the red too!

I had a work hoodie for my job and it was a pull over. HATED IT...Took it to the local leather shop that does repairs and such on leather, jeans and anything else you can think of. It cost me $25 to have them do this to it. Still hate the sweatshirt but at least now it is a better fit.The $25 was for the zipper and the labor. Imagine how much you can save doing it yourself. TYVM

Thank you, too. I normally do not buy expensive things to wear.... I was the 4th child in a family with 4 children, so my parents were always doing things on their own to save money for our schools and universities! Now that I'm an adult.... I do it myself :) And I do it for my (elder and only) sister ;D

This is an awesome idea! I had a Yellow Submarine sweatshirt that was a kid sized thing and the neck hole was so small I stopped wearing it. I'm going to see if I can find it and add a zipper!

If people sold these with zippers, then money wouldn't get saved. if that's an officially licensed sweatshirt, in the U.S., you'd be coughing up at LEAST $75 (55 pounds?).

Why do that when you can buy a $3 zipper and sew it on?

I would add a flap over the zipper, however, to help block the wind.

Nice 'ible!

Thank you. To tell you tre truth, I don't know if it's officially licensed, I didn't think about it. I bought it at the market stands, the ones that gave you 1 thing for 2 euros, 3 things for 5 euros. I intended to give it to my nephew, but he grew up to quickly and he's now bigger than me. I already had the zipper (in my mom's "sewing thing treasures"!), but I found that kind of zippers for about 2 euros in a "normal" shop and for less at the 99cent shops.

NP. That's the short of thing I was talking about. if you have a perfectly fine article, why spend money needlessly?

As far as the licensing issue, I was merely pointing out that if you invested your hard-earned cash into something, YOU are getting your money's worth out of it by doing something like this. Good job.

Incredible. Imagine if people sold these with zippers

I've got a sweatshirt with a zipper and hoodie. Or do you mean the "Scotland" trademark?
