Orchard Spider

Intro: Orchard Spider

100% home-made Halloween costume. Wielded wire with spandex shell. Inspired by nature.

STEP 1: Step 1. Fabricating the Frame

Using 1/16 gauge welding wire build a dome which will later become the spiders back and belly.

STEP 2: Step 2. Covering the Wire Frame

Stretch neon spandex all over the dome/body of the spider. Secure at the botton

STEP 3: Step 3. Decorating the Body

Take small furniture movers and make a pattern on the back of the body. I made it geometric and very similar to the markings of the real Orchard Spider. I also glued on lots of plastic spiders.

STEP 4: Step 4. Fabricating the Legs

1.5 inch pipe slice welded with 1/16 steel rods. Divided into 4 pieces for structure and lite weight. All together 8 legs were made.

STEP 5: Step 5. Attaching the Legs

Washers welded to the ends of the legs and then screwed into a wooden plate.

STEP 6: Step 6. Finishing the Legs

Wrap the legs with spandex. Glue the spandex with hot-glue

STEP 7: Step 7. Last Steps

Take 2 metal pieces and form them into a curve to fit the back and attach them to the wooden board which the legs are screwed onto. Then make a harness out of Velcro strips.

STEP 8: Step 9.

To complete the costume, I wore spider-web tights, black lace slip, cut-off tights for the sleeves and neon green tights/tank-top underneath.

STEP 9: THE FINISHED COSTUME
