Intro: Quick and Easy Mason Jar Spout

Lately, it seems like mason jars have gone from family farms to almost every American household. I cannot believe the popularity of these simple but effective jars. The more I see people using them as drinking glasses, the more I ask myself, why are they using these wide mouth jars that can pour out and spill everywhere? My solution for this problem, add a simple but effective spout.

STEP 1: Supplies

The best part of this guide is you more than likely already have exactly what you need laying around the kitchen. All you will need is a mason jar with a banded lid, a juice carton, some scissors, and a marker. With these simple supplies, you can make something that works beyond my expectations.

STEP 2: Cut Open the Carton

To get to the spout, we need to open up the carton to cut out the good bits. Tear open the top, being careful not to damage the area near the spout. Once completed, cut down the sides of the box to create a large flap about half the size of the carton.

STEP 3: Separate the Spout

Cut the flap that you made in the last step free. You are now ready to size it to the mouth of the jar.

STEP 4: Trace the Jar Pattern

Remove the band and lid from the jar. Set the band aside for now, we will need that in a couple of minutes.Take the lid and place it on the spout. Using your marker, trace the lid so you can cut it out and it will still fit snugly. We don't want any leaks.

STEP 5: Cut Out the Spout

Once the lid has been traced, use the scissors to cut out the spout. Stay as close as possible to the line to avoid leaks but also make it easy to install on the jar.

STEP 6: Install

Rather than placing the metal lid under the band, place your new spout under the band and tighten. Congrats, you now have a mason jar with a spout that is easy to use but will still help prevent major spills.

STEP 7: Finished!

The mason jar spout is a major success! Because it is waterproof, you don't have to worry about the liquids soaking though. This mod is great for liquids and anything that can be poured easily. I wouldn't recommend this for thicker contents as they would take forever to pour out. Thanks for reading!

Cool! Can also be used as drink savers.

Totally brilliant!

Neat idea. Have you noticed any leaking around the ring after prolonged use?
