Rethink the Mobile Handset

Intro: Rethink the Mobile Handset

This is a concept presentation for the rethink phone contest.

The idea described is certainly feasible and could be manufactured as part of a next generation of mobile phones.

STEP 1: My Notebook Thoughts

Here is a photo of my notebook in which I have set out a few thoughts. The intention being to re-think the phones interaction with the user.

STEP 2: The Removable Handset

Of course there are blue tooth headsets that you can clip over your ear and wander around like Lt Uhura.

This is smaller, neater and can be readily stored away when not in use.

This idea is basically a return to the proven idea of the separate handset but updated for today's needs.

About the handset :

It would be a moulded integral part of the design.

The handset would be held in place by a simple click mount or possibly by magnets.

Controls for volume, etc would be incorporated as in the current headphones.

Pictures could be initiated by pressing the photo button (doubles with other buttons)

A soft stylus would be incorporated into one end to facilitate accurate drawing on the screen.

It would incorporate all the features of the Adobe Ink and slide.

It would link via magnets to an unobtrusive ear clip. (Or possibly to pierced ear mounts)

removing the bar from the phone would answer calls.

Replacing the bar would terminate calls.

STEP 3: Conclusion

The question posed by the Seeed contest was to imagine a phone feature and describe it.

Not only would the concept described be more user friendly it could also drastically reduce the users exposure to phone radiation that has been shown to be bad with extended exposure.

I hope that this short 'ible has clearly shown the benefits of having an integral headset that is aesthetically pleasing and extremely functional.

Thanks for visiting.

I was just wondering why nobody has done anything like this yet, especially since smart phones are getting so huge nowadays.

On top of that, you could go back to the good ol' days of angrily slamming the handset to hang up on someone; can't quite do that with the usual "off" button today.

Thanks for commenting. A neat handset can be accommodated even on the iPhone 5 or 5s which is the one I based my image on. My current iPhone 6 could have a lovely handset bar clipped to the side, which I could use to answer calls. Of course I would not slam it down on anyone :-)

This not related to Lego at all please move to another category

Not at all sure what you mean?...I certainly did not select Lego...I selected Technology...or phone...I will check and see how I may change it if it somehow ended up mis-categorised. Thanks for drawing my attention to this.

Ok..Checked and yes it was in Lego..strange outcome.

Thanks again for alerting me. Maybe I will work on a Lego phone to make up for anyone's disappointment :-)
