Has anyone tried this with a sugar substitute to make a 'no sugar added' version?

try using monk fruit for the sugar. I am diabetic and I use it instead of sugar, its 1:1 so no problem there. You can find it at amazon.com plus there is monkfruit golden. like brown sugar but lighter and again its ok on glucose

Yeah, that made me LOL for sure and I agree but there's a ton of folks out there that can't do real sugar so it's a valid suggestion...unappetizing as it sounded.

If you do, I'd recommend erythritol, a sugar alcohol with no calories, a crystalline structure like sugar, and a taste very like sugar. Non-toxic to dogs, too.

these are amazing i love making them

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but I just made these yesterday and I found the smell and flavor of the gelatin overpowering. Sadly, I ended up dumping the batch.

I will say that the color and texture were great. The watermelon flavor and the tartness were also great but I just couldn't get past that gelatin flavor.

The only deviation I made from the recipe was I substituted extra watermelon juice in Step #4 for the water. So I had the same ratio of liquid to gelatin but was hoping for more watermelon flavor.

Can you use grapes or Pumpkins? My Mom can make pumpkin juice.

This recipe is amazing!!!!!!!!!

YES!! It worked. Thank you! Now, I wonder if these can be frozen and thawed for future ref??

These are delicious! I just made them. The only hitch is that it's a humid day, and even though I rolled the squares in sugar twice, they continue to sweat. Any ideas?

looks like a winner,,I will let ya'll know when I make it.

is there any other flavours you're considering making?

Very nice Instructable! Using fresh watermelon too? That makes me happy. My daughter will love making these and I won't feel bad about her eating them.

I'm impressed that this actually uses watermelon instead of some fake flavoring.

I am completely OBSESSED with sour watermelon candies. I can't wait to try to make some homemade ones. Thanks!

This is so cool. Can't wait to try it.
