Sally Rag Doll Gloves

Intro: Sally Rag Doll Gloves

I love Sally, I love The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I hate the costumes they sell in the stores. Not so much the dress portion as much as their answer to Sally being a rag doll. It almost always involves incorrectly colored and cheaply made tights and armlets. They look bad in my opinion and in no way convincing. So I decided to do my own gloves inspired by Sally. You can either use them for fashion or you can add on painted acrylic nails to get realistic look.

You can also do the exact same process on a pair legging that I do to gloves if you want to complete the look, just make sure your face makeup matches the color of your fabric.

I actually bought a glove pattern from the store only to have it not work for this purpose at all, I was amazed and disheartened. Therefore I searched the web to find this instructable here by Emsaid. It saved my project, and me from tears. So I was definitely inspired by Emsaid's instructable otherwise this one would have ended in me destroying a lot of fabric.

STEP 1: Gather Materials!

1. 1 yard of at least 90% cotton or rayon knit. It needs to be mostly cotton or rayon for the dye to take.
2. Sewing machine with thread. I recommend sewing this project with a stretch triple straight stitch or a stretch tricot stitch. More information about stitches available here.

3. A small paintbrush.

4. Tulip 1 Step Dyes in colors of your choice, I used Blue and Black.

5. Scrap Cardboard

6. Pins

7. Scissors

8. Acrylic Nails

9. Red nail polish

10. Nail Clippers

11. Tacky Glue, NOT SUPER GLUE. It will seep through the gloves and glue the gloves to your finger nails, which is unpleasant. Tacky glue does not seep through.

STEP 2: Watch the Video

Ok I think the ones with the nails look totally creepy, but the ones without I could imagine wearing on a cold day. Any cold day because I'm the type of person who likes to pretend that it's halloween year round.

I will admit that my Sally gloves are not the most accurate. She actually doesn't have any stitch lines on her hands, which from a sewing person point of view is weird and wrong. Therefore I articulated her hand to quiet my inner seamstress.

I just found this through a google search on TNBC tights/gloves. I’m not seeing a video on the second step. Is it still available?
OMG! I flipping love this! Thanks for welcoming me to Instructables, MsSweetSatisfaction ;)
