Intro: Stove Trivet (from a Coat Hanger)

This Stove Trivet is used to raise your pots and prevent scorching and burning food.

I made this several years ago, but from the photos you'll see that it is very easy to make.

So lets get started before the food burns on the stove!!!

As suggested by another member, I'll add a WARNING here for those of you who may need one... The hook on the end of the Stove Trivet should be placed AWAY from the edge of your stove to prevent yourself from getting caught on it and pulling your pot with you.

I will say, after using this for many years, I have had NO ISSUES, but common sense isn't always so common. *wink, wink*

STEP 1: What Do I Need?

All you will need is an uncoated metal coat hanger!

This is important! If it has a coating, you can simply remove it by cutting it carefully with a knife to remove the plastic.

Simply bend the metal coat hanger into a shape similar to the photo.

STEP 2: What Do I Do With It?

Now when you need a little assurance your food won't stick and scorch, use the trivet by placing it on your stove element.

If you want to HACK this further, you could modify the shape with a few extra bends and make this into a trivet for one of the many homemade camp stoves that other members have published.

If you do hack this further, post me a photo, I would love to see what you came up with!

STEP 3: Now What?

Now place your pot onto the trivet and make your favorite recipe!

Please note that ANYTHING on the stove can burn if left unattended, this is merely a tool to help you avoid sticking and scorching. NEVER leave anything on the stove unattended.

Also Note that this Stove Trivet will become HOT when in use on the stove. DO NOT TOUCH IT while it is in use. Allow to cool before removing from element.

You can store your new Stove Trivet with your pots, or use the coat hanger loop to hang.

This Stove Trivet could also be made for use on one of the many homemade camp stoves that other members have created. If anyone does use it for that purpose, show me your photos - I would love to see it!

Cool 'able! I've been telling myself for several years that I need to make one of these.

As for spamattakky, if you turn the hooked end so that it is pointing toward the back of the stove, you greatly reduce the chances of hooking it accidentally.

P.S. Always also turn pot, pan, and skillet handles around so they don't hang out over the front of the stove especially if you have small children.

Thanks for the reply. It really is worth making. I use mine all the time, especially for heating milk, cream based soup and cooking rice.

Anyone concerned about accidents should just use it on the back burners (versus the front ones) or use pliers to bend the hook into a closed loop.

You add a warning in using this...
You can get hooked and drag the whole pot to the floor and you!

I've been using this for several years and have yet to do that... but I suppose you're right, that there are some people out there who require a warning. :)
