Intro: Swaddling a Fussy Baby

Babies are often fussy because they are struggling to adjust to life outside the womb. Swaddling is an excellent way to mimic the snug conditions of a mother's womb.
To swaddle your baby, start by placing a large square blanket onto a flat surface and fold down one of the corners.

STEP 1: Step 2

Place the baby at the center of the folded corner.

STEP 2: Step 3

Wrap the left hand corner snugly behind the baby's back.

STEP 3: Step 4

Bring the bottom corner up over the baby's feet and tuck it tightly behind his right shoulder, on top of the piece of blanket his laying on.

STEP 4: Step 5

Hold the baby's hands down has you wrap the last remaining corner around the baby and back to the front.

STEP 5: Step 6

Don't be afraid to wrap the blanket at tight as you can. Babies love the snug feeling!

My kids would fuss until they got their arms free, then they were fine.

Then again, they loved having their head way out over our arms so that they looked at the world up-side-down.
Mmmmm....baby burrito! I was really stunned at how well this worked with our daughter, along with the bouncing and shushing.

Have you read Karp's The Happiest Baby on the Block?  I don't like his pseuo-evolutionary backstory, but his method is amazingly effective.
Your son is so cute!!!
