Threaded Rod Cutting Station

Intro: Threaded Rod Cutting Station

I cut a lot of threaded rod in my small shop. Using hand tools or portable cutters has never worked as well as I would like. Rather than spending a lot of money for a good cut off saw I designed a small jig that holds a drill and cheap cutting disks from Harbor Freight.

I also wanted to be able to cut a slot in the end of the threaded rod to make it easier to screw into various projects.

The system works very well. It cuts fast and is very straight. No clean up is required to put a nut on. The video shows the whole process.

Thanks for taking a look!

At first I thought "Why would he need to make a threaded rod cutting station? It's easy enough isn't it?" But now that I have seen it in action, it makes great sense. I like how you can make a pile of threaded rod cuts vary quick and very easy. All that is left is a ruler on top to quickly measure lengths when you cut and fashion a stop so that you can make several cuts of the same length. But you probably already did that so never mind.:D

Great suggestions. The speed and accuracy that this little jig offers is pretty cool. I should have built something like this a long time ago. Thanks for your comments.

This is a great looking setup. Nicely done! :)
