Intro: USB Thumb Drive Pocket Knife

In this instructables I'm going to show you how to construct a USB thumb drive (memory stick) pocket knife.
Here are all the materials you're going to need to make this project:

1. USB thumb drive (any storage amount will work)
2. Swiss army pocket knife
3. Hot glue gun and glue
4. Small flat head screw driver

STEP 1: STEP: 1

Beginning this project you'll need to remove the tweezer and tooth pick from the knife.

Then insert a flat head screw driver into the opening where the tweezers or tooth pick goes. (This will be the back of the knife.) Carefully use your screw driver as a lever and push down on it; in turn this will "pry" the handle from the knife.

Only pry one side of your knife handle and leave the other handle intact.

STEP 2: STEP: 2

Now that you have removed one of the handles from the knife, run a dab of hot glue along the edges of the handle then place it on the thumb drive. Then hot glue your next handle on the opposite side of the thumb drive. This will sandwich the thumb drive between the two handles.

Be sure that you don't glue the guts of the knife together.

STEP 3: STEP: 3 Final Step

Now you have a portable USB thumb drive pocket knife, which you can take with you where ever you go.

Bellow this is what the finished project should look like.
Hope you enjoyed this instructables!

Clever idea to make an inexpensive version of the Victorinox SwissFlash drives like I carry. I never carried a pocket knife until I got a USB one and now it is in my pocket everyday. I did an instructable on how to upgrade the capacity of one. Making one per your instructable would be cheaper to get a large capacity one without breaking the bank.
Thanks!! You also have a great idea with your upgradeing instructable.
First actually useful USB + thing I've ever seen.

Usually they are just USB drive that look like something else, but have no real use outside their USB drive, like what Butch is talking about.
Hey guys this is my first instructable. Let me know if it need inpruvement.
It would help to have a photo, or at least a description, of the memory stick by itself, so we would know that it folds into itself. Most memory sticks don't, so people might get confused trying this out on their own.
Okay thanks I'll edit it and put up some more pictures.
Isn't getting a pocket knife and USB stick the same size tricky?

Also, I'm not sure that hot-glue would do well keeping it together. And lastly, I'm afraid the USB stick might not be up to handeling the punishment if you use the knife on a regular basis.

Some edge-on pics would be nice. And a coupleof the ends too. They'd give us a better idea of it's sturdyness and presentability. If it looks ugly edge on, what's the point?
Great idea, but this is available from the Swiss knife shop.

Nice, but expensive. And the drive is removable! Though they need to offer more than an 8GB drive.

What would be good to do is offer larger drives every year that you could swap out the smaller one for, 'cause you know how quickly USB drives become useless.
Victorinox sells these in a variety of GB sizes.
I'm with Lucylollipop. In your final two photos, the thumb drive seems to be in two different positions, so I'm guessing the angle is adjustable. Does it tuck all of the way back into the body (handle) of the knife like the other parts do?
Yes. The USB port i used for this can fold into its self. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Does the finished knife/stick "close", the same way that a normal pen knife does?
Feel free to send me a picture of your finished USB pocket knife! I'd love to see it.
