Introduction: 3D Printing Art Decoration

About: I am mechanical engineer and I work on robotic mechanical design. I am running my startup and sometime working on my design hobby.

I found the new version of PrusaSlicer is very useful to make art decoration (without creating the art yourself). And here is how. For more detail please check my video.

Supplies

  • SVG files from free SVG sites
  • Frame: You can use my frame here or make your own frame

Step 1: Choose Your SVG Files

Down load the SVG files you like from free SVG file sites

Step 2: Install the PrusaSlicer Version 2.7

You can download it from their Github here

Step 3: Load the Frame and SVG File

  1. Open PrusaSlicer and add the frame
  2. Right click on the frame and go to Add Part -> SVG
  3. Scale the SVG art to fit your frame
  4. Move it to your prefer position

Step 4: Settings for SVG File

  1. Select edit SVG
  2. Choose the thickness of the SVG art. Usually you can choose it base on the thickness of the frame and color you want. I set this 1mm higher than the frame because I have single color printer. The value will be 4mm in this case
  3. Make sure that you drop SVG file the the print bed

Step 5: Slice the Print and Set the Color

  1. Slicer the model
  2. Add color change for each part of the decoration (in case you have single color extruder like me)

Step 6: Chirstmas Gifts Are Ready

Happy making!
