How to Make a Replica Minecraft Pickaxe

If your like me, MineCraft is on your mind all day. in the morning, on the bus, in class, at lunch, while taking notes, while showering, it even shows up in my DREAMS! MineCraft is a drug, and millions are addicted. The best way to get your fix when not playing, FanArt!

I decided to make a replica pick-axe. This technique can be used for any of the tools, but i really wanted a pick-axe. There's no zombies outside my house, so I don't need a sword (There's creepers but they keep their distance.) I wanted it to be durable, so I made it out of wooden blocks then painted it. It worked really well!

Step 1: Getting the Template

Go into your minecraft jar file. If you don't know how to do this, look for modding instructions on youtube or minecraft forums. When in the jar file, go into gui.png and extract it wherever you want. I have one below for you to use although I'm not sure if you can download the photoshop file. Use this as a reference for what pixels go where and a painting reference later. I made an iron pick-axe. A few of the iron tools are below plus a diamond if you want to make one. The pickaxes have 69 pixels so I will need at least that many wooden cubes.

Step 2: Cut the Blocks

My dad did this part. I wanted to but for some arbitrary reason he doesn't trust a clumsy 17 year old pyromaniac with his circular saw... Go figure. I'll never get parents. Anyway, I cut mine about 1 inch cubed. 2 or 3 would be more realistic but we had limited materials. Make sure they are as perfectly cubed as possible and account for the width of the saw.

Step 3: Glue the Blocks Together

This part was not nearly as easy as it sounds. Because I was using wood glue, which needs to be clamped, I had to glue it in parts, then glue the parts together. First I did the handle in 9 little triangle shapes, then made a more complex shape at the top. I divided the rest of the top into more 3 peice triangles, and then made rows of 3 for the rest of the pick. I used the tape and elastics as clamps. See the pictures below.

Step 4: Paint!

Try to mix the paint as accurately as possible and make sure you refer to the picture for each pixels color. Don't just go and paint the top gray and the bottom brown. It won't look anything like the in game one. Also, Make sure to paint the sides, and try to find thicker paint than what I used...
