Introduction: Mini LED POV

About: Hi, my name is Antoine and i like to teach pepole. I do a lot of stuff like soldering and coding.

Hi! Today. i'm gonna show you how to make a mini LED POV that make strips of lights in the air!

Making this will cost around 5$. It is great for kids, but, they need the help of an adult to make it.

Let's start!

Step 1: The Tools

You will need:

Solder.

Wire cutter.

Wire stripper.

Helping hands.

Soldering iron.

Check out my previous project to see where you can find some of these tools.

Step 2: The Material

For this, you will need:

3x 3mm LEDs ( i used 2 yellow and 1 red but you can use the color you want)

3x 200ohms resistors

1x CR2032 battery holder

1x Perf board of 12x21 holes

1x mini potentiometer (10k)

1x solid core wire ( 10 cm)

1x CR2032 coin cell battery

Step 3: LEDs

The first thing you need to do is to bend the legs of the 3 resitors.

The resistors:

1- Place the resistors like show on the photos.

2- Place some tape to keep them in place.

3- Flip the board over and solder the legs in place.

4- Cut the legs with the wire cutter. Wear safety glasses!!!

The LEDs:

1- Place all the 3 LEDs like show on the photo. The positive side ( the longer leg) go left. Check the photos for more details.

2- Place some tape over them to keep them in place.

3- Flip the board over and solder them down.

4- Clips the legs with the wire cutter.

5- Check to photo n.15 to see how to solder the positive legs of the LEDs to the resistors.

The potentiometer:

1- Place the potentiometer like show on the images.

2- Flip the board over and solder it in place.

The little wire:

1- Take one of the legs of one of the resistor that you cut last time.

2- Place it in place like show on the photo n.23.

3- Solder it in place.

The conections:

1- Take your blue solid wire. Check the photo n.25 and 26 to see how to cut it.

2- Using your wire stripper, stripp off the ends of the wire.

3- Solder it like show on the photo.

The battery holder:

1- Place the battery holder like show on the photo n.29.

2- Flip the board over and solder it in place.

The finals connections:

1- Cut again a little leg from one of the resistor that we cut last time.

2- Place it like show on the photo n.32.

3- Solder it in place.

4- Cut two little wire of 2 cm.

5- Stripp the end of them.

6- Solder them like show on the two photos.

7- Mesure again some blue wire, like show on the photo n.39. Cut it down.

8- Stripp the end of it and place it in place like show.

You are done!

Step 4: How to Use

Once you have finish soldering it, its time to test it!

How to use;

- 1 Put the CR2032 battery in the holder, the (+) side facing up.

- 2 With a knife or a screwdriver, turn the mini potentiometer to control the LEDs brightness.

Wave it in the air. It will NOT work if there is somme lights! It need to be dark.

Try to take photos, have fun with it!
