How can I be safe when wiring up a 230v halogen bulb?

Iam making a dehydrator and i want the high temperatures needed for preserving meats. If i use a 500w halogen bulb, how would i wire it up to the mains with a dimmer switch aswell?

Fine an old worklamp or something with the right fixture for it because the bulbs are kind of fragile... The way they hook up is very simple, taking the wiring out of the lamp would be very simple and using it, you might have trouble finding a dimmer switch that'll not get fried with that much current going through.

make sure the electricity mains is not on and wear eye and body protection or be extra careful...
