What variety of garlic should i grow?

I'm looking into starting some garlic in my garden this fall, and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a good garlic for southern California. i'm in zone 8B, and i have read that i probably want a hard-neck garlic, but can't seem to find anything more specific than that. Does anyone have any recommendations?

8B is a warm zone area and hardneck garlic is best grown in cooler climates.
Any softneck garlic is more appropriate for your zone. Silverskin garlic will do well in your climate zone.

I've grown garlic for the last 4 years in Northcentral Texas. I just go to the supermarket and pick up 2-3 heads of whatever they have and grow that. Works great for me so far.
