Introduction: Manly Coffee Table

in this instructable I'll show you how I made a cool coffee table for a friend of mine. He can really enjoy a good meal so I decided to build it using a huge metal spoon and fork.

All the components were found in a local thrift shop. I suggest you go to one of those and look for diverse metal parts and try to fit them together in the shop. Let your creativity run free!

Step 1: Cut a Groove in the Platter

start with cutting a groove in the platter with your trusty angle grinder. make shure it fits the metal base. In this project I won't weld it to the base so you can still use it as a tray.

Step 2: Fix the Components Together

using a welding clamp, you can now add the spoon and fork together. Use wooden blocks to fix them at the right angle.

Step 3: Start Welding

First I welded the undersides of the fork and spoon to the base. I did this by first tack-welding and then adding more welds.

Next step is to weld the spoon to the fork in the point where they cross each other. Again go for tack-welding, followed by extra welding.

Step 4: Grind of Excess Welds

The last step of welding consists of cleaning up the welds with an angle grinder (you can also use a vile, but I lack the patience). Just make them a bit more smooth

Step 5: Paint It

Now you'll gave to go outside for the paint job. I did two layers: first a layer if protective metal paint, then a second layer of black paint. Between coatings you should let it dry for 10 minutes or more.

Step 6: Wrap It Up and Enjoy

Next step is to wrap the whole table as a present . Give it to a friend and enjoy! (the picture is from after the unwrapping and several minutes of happy laughter) Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
