1 package active dry yeast
1 1/4 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
2  tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 cups of your favorite pizza toppings

Step 2: Make the Dough

1. Mix warm water, yeast, sugar and oil. Let stand for about 10 min. Mixture should be bubbly.

2. Add salt and flour. Mix until the dough sticks together. Knead dough until it becomes smooth, about 10 min. Add water as needed.

3. Put the dough in a bowl, cover with and cloth and allow to rise for about an hour, or until it doubles in size. Placing the dough in a warm spot will help the dough rise faster. Prepare the filling while the dough is rising.

4. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and form balls.

Step 3: Prepare the Filling

For those who don't have a rice cooker, try using a colander on top of a pot of boiling water.

If I wanted to make white dough would I just use regular white flour instead of the wheat?

wizgirl (author)CathyJo862014-01-01

Yep!

Are you putting something in the rice cooker to set the balls on?
They appear to be sitting higher in your cooker than mine would.
I can't see pouring water around them to steam them with them sitting on the bottom.
Great idea.

Any reason not to bake these? Why did you decide to steam them?

Rice cookers are allowed in dorm rooms... wanted to give students a new option. We tried baking half, but the steamed buns were far better.
