Hey, thanks for all the help!! just curious, before i buy the epoxy, (cause its a little pricey) which kind did you use for your wood, I was going to buy the smooth-on cause it was the cheapest but i noticed it said "white" on the bottle in the amazon picture.

There is no protection in the charger itself. When the laptop is fully charged, it'll draw less current and power itself from the DC input. - en_rov
The protection isn't to stop it from overcharging the battery. It's to prevent it from pulling too much power and charging the pack too fast, making it heat up and damaging it. - nic.bryan.73
That's awesome information

Yep, it only becomes transparent when the resin has bubbled through all the fibers
Ultra-Lightweight Tyvek Backpacking Belt
Thanks for sharing this interesting experiment! I tried it out - only the first two steps now. without the resin. After NaOH my wood looks a bit transparent but only when wet. 3% H2O2 bleaches it out but it is not transparent. I added it first to 30% H2O2 but hte wood completely decomposed. 3% is better I guess. My question is: is the wood becoming transparent only when adding the resin? I would expect id to be a bit transparent also before adding that. I used balsa wood :-)

I wonder if anyone has built something like this with a raspberry pi? I found this drive and the newer version by looking for a pi project that did this exact thing. I'm going on a bicycle tour in Latin America and want to backup all my data.

yeah it would be exactly perfect for soft buttons!
What is the thickest piece of wood you have used? I'm thinking .25" thick transparent oak coasters, or a tabletop if you could do large enough pieces of requisite thickness, true up the edges after casting and laminate them together.
Do you think I can use this as material for soft buttons?I want to make a DIY Launchpad(probably a 4x4 or 8x8 Novation Launchpad clone). This looks like a great material to use for the buttons, as is could short out traces on my PCB. Kind of like the buttons on a standard TV's remote work.
