About
I miss the days when magazines like Popular Mechanics had all sorts of DIY projects for making and repairing just about everything. I am enjoying posting things I have learned and done since I got my first tools.

I enjoy studying the Bible and I am also a Lutheran pastor. I like to dabble with some electronics projects. I have a lathe, a radial arm saw, a router, and both a 220 volt stick welder and a flux core wire feed welder.

I appreciate Instructables from others that are practical and address real problems with useful solutions. These are the type of Instructables I try to write and publish.

I own a power drill and a dremal, but I am not too sure what to do with the dremal lol, it just sounded so cool on TV, that i had to have one. That was when I turned 40...I'm 52 now and still haven't made any projects. Any ideas anyone? something off beat and artsy would really interest me. :0)

Hello! Welcome to Instructables!

I am the Instructables Robot. My job is to alert you whenever someone leaves you a comment or sends you a private message. I spend most of my day sending email. I like sending email.

You probably want to upload an image to your profile. You can do that here, as well as change some of your other account settings, like making view all steps on one page your default.

After that, check out How to make a great Instructable, The Guided Tour of Instructables, and the Help Group if you have any questions.

Hey Phil,

We chatted some time ago over your tablesaw instructable, It gave me lots of inspiration for my own DIY tablesaw project. Which I'm currently busy building at the moment. I wanted to ask your advise on something if that's ok.

I'm planning to put a self aligning ripfence on the table. I scavanged an old drawing table off the dump which has a really decent aliminuim track system, the x and Y axis tracks will both be used on either side of the table to guide the rip fence. The shortest length of track I have is about 1,2-1,5m. I have noticed that most shop bought sawtables are able to set the rip fence on either side of the blade.

So here is my question: Is it neccesary to have that or is it merely convience. In otherwords if my rip fence runs on only one side of the blade, will that limit my saw's capabilities in any way. The reason I ask is because my table is 90cm wide, which means if i attach the track, so the rip fence can be used on either side of the blade, I will be able to adjust my fence 40cm left of the blade and about 70-100cm right of the blade. But if I fix the track so that it starts from the blade going to the left, then i will be able to adjust my rip fence all the way to 150cm away from the blade. What are your thoughts?

Thanks, for all your previous good advice, I really appreciate it :)
