Bike pump problem?

I was using my bike pump today to fill a pneumatic launcher, and finally I just got fed up with the leaking around the pump base. On every stroke, the first 3/4 of air would be leaked out of the base, and it would only compress the remaining 1/4 of air remaining, and that would only compress if you pushed down very hard, and quickly, otherwise it all leaked out. And no matter what pressure the launcher was pressureized to, the pump handle/piston would slide down slowly, getting pushed down under it's own weight, meaning that there was almost no resistance to it. I think the leak is occuring where the tube meets the pump base, and you can feel air rush out with your legs as you pump. I'm pretty sure there is a one way valve in the gauge portion of the pump, which connects to the base with a hose,  and the filling hose is coming out of it, which is allowing me to compress at least a little air before the rest leaks out. I disassembled  the pump, starting with the base. Turns out, the leak was from an oring on the tube which was not tightened down enough by a screw on ring around the base of the tube. Put it back together, and voila, pushing my finger against the schrader valve connector and pushing down on the pump handle created pressure against my finger and no leaking. As soon as I hooked it up to my launcher, i realized something was up, I could pump down once, but the pump handle just got pushed upwards as soon as i let go. This is what I can't figure out how to fix. It seems the one way valve in the gauge portion is locked in the open position. Anybody know how to fix this? EDIT: Okay I took pictures of the pieces. I now cannot figure out if the valve is in the base, or the gauge portion, so i have included pics of both. Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. EDIT 2: Turns out the valve is in the base, and the ball just fell out when i first disassembled it, i have now found the ball and it is working fine.

What is the best way to remove rust from chrome on an old bicycle. I have a vintage schwinn I'm restoring on the cheap?

This is a 70's or 80's schwinn ten speed I'm converting into a single speed road bike. The paint is still good, the frame is in good shape. But there is rust on the crank, handlebars and other area's.

Can I connect a car a battery to my Schwinn electric scooter to make it run faster and longer ?

I have an electric scooter that i want to take further that current batteries only run about 6 miles (3mile at top speed) and i want to hook up a more powerful battery to make it run longer and faster. is there a way to use a trolling battery or a car battery to do this?

How can I lengthen a bicycle axle? Answered

I want to install a different rear wheel on my OCC Schwinn Stingray. The giant distance between the dropouts means no standard hubs are available to fit the space. If I have a nipple and short bit of axle welded or otherwise attached to the end of the standard axle would that work? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.?

Bicycle accident is the frame okay? Answered

I struck basically struck a curb (an unmarked road island really) going 17 mph roughly and blew out my front rim. I broke a collar bone because of the accident. Anyways I was wondering if the frame is okay I looked at it and there was no visible cracks anywhere. Its a cheap Schwinn frame and it got me wondering if it would be safe to put a new rim on and go. BTW this is a gas powered motorized bicycle not the cheap ones as shown BEFORE the crash.

Bent Bike Frame

Yeah, so, my brother bought a mid-80s Schwinn World Sport. It's a nice bike. I spent about 10 hours overhauling every piece of that bike. Unfortunately, when I got it all put back together and test rode it, the bike had a nasty pull to the right. Bent Frame. He didn't check that when he bought it (didn't know anything about it, I daresay).  Anybody know anything about repairing a bent frame? The frame's tubes don't seem to be damaged or crimped or dented.  I'm thinking of using a car jack and some straps to straighten it out. Any thoughts?

Fixed Gear/Track Bike Conversion

Hey guys. I just stumbled upon this group. Good stuff here. But lately I've been working on an old Schwinn Le Tour I have, and could you some help. I've stripped it down, cleaned it all up, but before I go and put it back together id like to find out a thing or two about converting it to a fixed gear track bike. It's got horizontal drop-outs, and in great condition. I just need some tips on how to do it, and opinions on the pro's and con's of the conversion. Thanks to everyone who can help me out.
