Introduction: 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 Comfy Pillion Seat

I made this instructable to show how I modified my AirHawk 2 R (Small) seat into a pillion seat for my 2015 Yamaha Yzf-R1. The new bikes these days do not have a great seat for passengers, so this is a great way to still have an awesome sport bike and make your date/ lady happy.

Step 1: Supplies

First gather your supplies listed below:

1. 1/4 inch plywood, at least 20x20, enough room to cut the shape of the pillion.

2. Wood glue: I used

Step 2: Make Template

Take your plywood and trace a template around the seat, making an outline of the seat on the plywood. I made my template a 1/4 inch smaller, this way the plywood would not stick out the sides of the AirHawk seat when mounted.

Step 3: Cut Plywood

Now cut the plywood to desired shape.

Step 4: Sand

Sand the plywood if you wish to make it smooth, this will also help the glue and plastidip adhere.

Step 5: Cut Out Padding

I used gym mat padding to glue underneath to keep the base from moving around and scratch my plastics. I cut two pieces measuring 1 inch by 2 inch. I placed them to the rear of the base so that they squeeze each side of pillion.

Step 6: Plasti Dip

Once you have decided the placement of the pads and have glued them down you may begin to paint the base. Once painted with desired amount of coats let it dry for at least 4 hours (Drying time may vary).

Step 7: Mount AirHawk

Now it is time to mount your AirHawk. I made my elastic bands short as possible and crossed them as pictured. You can choose not strap it down, but most likely your passenger will knock it off when dismounting the bike. Hope this helps, safe riding!
