Introduction: 3 Layer Lasered Christmas Wreath (wood)

For our project, we went for a holiday-themed, 3-layered wreath. The base layer as well as the berries layer were traced on Fusion 360, then imported to Illustrator where they were laser cut. The Leaves layer was imaged traced on Illustrator, and then laser cut. For the final product, all three layers were glued together in this order: Base, Berries, and Leaves.

Supplies

We used .2-inch wood panels, which the layers were lasered from. Earlier in the process, we also used Fusion 360 and Adobe Illustrator to trace the wreath layers. Then with the files, we laser cut all the layers.

Step 1: Base Layer

For the Base layer, we traced the outline using line and arch segments, then created a drawing from it on Fusion 360 so that it could be cut. Once it was laser cut were were able to simply pop the layer out of the wood panel.

Step 2: Berries Layer

For the Berries Layer, we also traced the outline using line segments, arches, and circles. Then converted it to a drawing on Fusion 360 so that it could be laser cut. However, after it was cut it was a little difficult to separate the layer from the wood panel. There were a few tough spots in the wood where the laser was not able to cut through. We used a box cutter to separate a few areas, then we glued the pieces that fell off.

Step 3: Leaves Layer

For the Leaves Layer, We imaged and traced the pdf on Adobe Illustrator. Then we set the measurements right, and we were able to cut it out using the laser cutter. The leaves layer came out in many pieces, so we then arranged them and glued them to the other layers.

Step 4: Assembly

To attach all three layers we used a hot glue gun. We also glued on a few pieces from the Berries Layer which fell off when we tried to remove the layer from the wood panel after laser cutting.
