Introduction: 3D Glasses Clip-on

Like many of you I like a good movie. I recently went to see Star Wars - The Last Jedi on release weekend. the only seats available the whole weekend were for the 3D version. I normally don't go to see movies in 3D, because I get distracted by the need to continually adjust my glasses to fit with the 3D glasses. Well, no more. I was inspired by my clip-on shades that I used to wear with my old glasses (my new pare has auto-darkening lenses) so I kept the glasses instead of tossing them in the recycle on the way out. Here we go...

Step 1: Get Out Some Materials

you will need a few things to complete this mod.

1. A good sharp pair of scissors.

2. A pair of clip on shades that fir your frames. ($6 US at the drugstore)

3. A pair of 3D glasses. (most theaters use the same polarized lenses)

4 A fine point permanent marker.

Step 2: Prepping the Glasses and Lenses

Gently pop out the lenses from the clip-on shades and the 3D glasses. You can toss the plastic frames from the 3D glasses into the recycle bin or costume box. We won't be using them for this project.

Step 3: Measure

Check that the lenses are large enough to fit your frames by setting the tinted lenses on the 3D lenses. Make sure the 3D lenses extend past the edges of the tinted lenses.

Step 4: Mark Out the Cut Lines

Use the fine point permanent marker to draw the clip-on lens outline onto the 3D lens. Do this for both the right and left side making sure that you have the lenses oriented correctly, right with right and left with left.

Step 5: Cut Down to Size

Cut the 3D lenses along the lines, cutting just inside the lines. (there should be ink no marking on the finished lens)

Test fit and trim as needed. The lenses should "snap" in.

Step 6: Final Fit

You should have something like this.

Clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth and gently snap them into the frames.

Step 7: Done!

You now have your very own clip-on 3D glasses. No more adjusting your glasses during those exciting scenes, no more missing the cool action scenes because your glasses shifted. Hope this was a fun build! I sure liked it.
