Introduction: 3D Origami Lily

About: I'm all about sharing artistic ideas with others! Such as drawing techniques, origami inventions, fun diy crafts for special holiday occasions, and easy-to-follow artistic tutorials!

Here it is as promised! A 3D origami project to put those pieces to use. This is a simple 3D lily that is easy to make and doesn't require too many pieces (at least for the standard of most 3D origami).

Warning: This project may be too difficult for someone who hasn't ever done 3D origami before. If this is your first time, I suggest you find an easier tutorial.

Supplies

This 3D lily will require 618 pieces and you will need to glue every piece together. It isn't necessary to glue the first few rows, but it will be almost impossible to keep the last rows together if you don't glue them. You can use any color I just used white pieces because they're easier to mass produce.

Step 1: Starting Out

Row 1: Start with five pieces.

Row 2: Connect those pieces with five more. Then put a piece (five in all) in every gap between the five pieces.

Row 3: Use 10 pieces to connect them.

Row 4: 10 pieces.

Row 5: 10 pieces

This is the bottom part of the lily. The rest of the steps will be working on the petals.

Step 2: Starting the Petal

Row 6: Two pieces, but flip them the other way. All the pieces from here on will be turned the other way.

Row 7: One piece in between the last two.

Row 8: Two more pieces attached to row 7 and row 6.

Row 9: Three pieces. The two on the edges will only be half on, and the empty half will be on the inside.

Row 10: Two pieces.

Row 11: Three pieces, the outer ones attached to row 10 and row 9 outside pieces.

Step 3: Continuing the Petal

Row 12: Four pieces, the outer two are only half on and again the empty half in on the inside.

Row 13: Five pieces, same rule as above. Make sure that the petal curves outward so it's shaped like a real flower petal.

Row 14: Six pieces, same rule as row 12.

Row 15: Seven pieces, same rule as row 12.

Row 16: Six pieces, all on the inside

Row 17: Seven pieces, the outer two are attached to row 16 and row 15 outer pieces.

Step 4: Finishing the Petal

Row 18: Six pieces on the inside.

Row 19: Seven pieces.

Row 20: Six pieces, the outer two will be attached to one-and-a-half pieces.

Row 21: Five pieces on the inside.

Row 22: Six pieces

Row 23: Four pieces, they will each be attached to one-and-a-half pieces.

Row 24: Three pieces, the middle one will be attached normally, but the outer two will be attached like row 23.

Row 25: Two pieces, same rule as row 23.

For row 20 and beyond, I strongly suggest using glue if not already.

Step 5: Add the Other Petals

Now that you have one petal done, it's time to add the rest of them. Repeat steps 2-4 to add the four other petals. (Use up all of the space).

Well that's it! Make sure to ask any clarifying questions if you have any and to let me know it you made it!
