Introduction: 3D Printed Screw Post Terminal

About: I am a Senior in college studying Mechanical Engineering. My interests include woodworking, 3D printing, electronics and building computers

I needed screw terminal posts for my bench top power supply and no place where i lived had them in stock and i didn't want to wait to get ones ordered online. So I came up with the idea of 3D printing them. I looked online and couldn't find any so I set out to design my own.

What You Need

  • 3D printer (or access to one)
  • #8-32 machine screw, I used 1-3/4" because thats what i had but shorter would still work
  • 2 - #8-32 Hex Nuts
  • Super glue

Step 1: Design and Printing

I designed everything using Solidworks because that is what i am the most fluent in.

I attached 4 .stl files, the "complete_post_terminal" is all the components placed together, I included the individual part files if anyone wants to move the parts around on there print bed.

I printed the 3 red terminals first then switched filament to black and printed the last one.

Step 2: Assembly

Refer to pictures for clarification of steps

  1. Press the hex nut into the top cap, super may be needed to hold the nut in depending on the accuracy of your printer.
  2. Place the machine screw in through the bottom piece. The ring connector is just there to show how wires can be attached on the bottom.
  3. The middle piece is placed on followed by another hex nut.
  4. Now the top can be screwed on and you are finished.
  5. The posts are designed to fit in a 5/8" hole

    Good Instructable, 3d printing is still trying to find it's place in this world, yours is a fine example of a useful output that helps achieve a project's goal when normal resources are not available.
