Hey guys. It’s been a while since we last shared some content on this website. You can check our last Instructables here. Since then, we have had many interesting projects one of which we want to share it with you. As you probably know, this year Godzilla the movie celebrated its 25th anniversary. For this occasion, one of our customers from Taiwan 3D printed and painted a 38 cm tall Godzilla. This Instructables will focus on the printing and painting process.

Step 1: Get the STL Files

You will find on Gambody two versions of 3D printing files for Godzilla : one set consisting of 11 separate parts adapted for FDM 3D printers and 1 STL file for SLS 3D printers. The SLS version of the file will yield a 19 cm tall Godzilla.

Step 2: What Will You Need

3D printing equipment and materials:

Infinity X1, Anycubic i3 Mega 3D printers
PLA material
Nippers
Sanding paper
Primer
Oil paints
Acrylic paint
Spray paint
Painting brushes

The figurine was printed at a layer thickness of 0.12mm, infill of 15%, printing speed of 30, and the total time took about 400 hours.

Step 3: Post 3D Printing Processing

First, remove all supports off the model with the help of the nippers. Also, use sanding paper to smooth out the upper layer of the miniature. Once done, apply 2-3 coats of primer as a smoothing finish.

Step 4: Assemble All Parts

Once done with printing, Hassemble all parts. The video will make assembling of 3D printing figurine easier.

Step 5: Star Painting

Use dark green and dark blue to paint the dorsal area of the Godzilla. For this part, a small airbrush might come in handy. Spray the dark green from 15cm distance of the model. Avoid applying too much of it. If you do, the paint will run and this is not the effect you want to achieve. Work your way from the darker to the lighter colour.

Step 6:

Apply dark blue at the tips of the dorsals and with a brush, apply lighter blue brush strokes. It should look like a gradual ombre effect. Work your way, applying brushstrokes of dark green and blue across the figurine.

Step 7: Last Step

Paint the eyes and mouth of the Godzilla with rusty red. And you’re done. This Godzilla comes also with a support base. And… you’re done!
