Intro: 3D Printing My Chinese Name-kai

The instructable is about Chinese name by 3D Printing.

STEP 1: Step 1:research the Meaning of My Name

/kai/ (simplified version) ( original version)

Structure of Chinese Character: Left-Right

Radical ( Simplified version): , means metal

Method of Creation: phonogram

It means an iron everyone says good.

STEP 2: Step 2: Innovative Interpretation

/kai/ is a refined iron. The character is formed with two parts.

Besides the radical, the one at the right side is character /jie/,

the upper part /bi/ looks like two people thumb up,

and bottom part /bai/ means speak in classical Chinese, and these two part puts together means everyone says good.

And when it combines with iron, then it has the meaning of a kind of iron everyone says good.

STEP 3: Step 3: Design

However,to express the iron everyone thumbs up is a challenge to me. I think this kind of iron is used for casting sword after an ironsmith hammered it time and time again. So an ironsmith hammering a sword is something I want to use to represent Chinese character

STEP 4: Step4: 3D Modeling

In the 3D model, I built an iron-cast shop, the ironsmith is hammering a sword, while some raw iron are on the shelf and an unsuccessful sword is also on the floor. This scene shows that to made a good sword is not easy, it needs to be hammered over and over, and also failures will happen.

STEP 5: Step5: Further Improvement

For further improvement, I would like to add some structure on the arms to make it swing up and down and then it could present the process of hammering.

You did a very good job on all of your designs !

Thank you!
