"Check if your material is sewable" and if not, then drill holes in it. Big holes. And sew with rope.
This hanging basket structure is a scaled-up version of the 3D Sewing: Rings with Strings technique.
This Instructable shows an example of milling and drilling sheets of MDF into large rings with holes in them and then sewing them together with rope.
STEP 1: Materials and Tool
MATERIALS:
- 3/4 inch MDF sheet (could also use other material)
- 1/2 inch diameter rope
TOOLS:
- Software to create toolpath
- Shopbot to cut MDF rings and drill holes
- Scissors to cut rope
- Lighter to finish ends of rope

you could use dowels instead and make an umbrella stand

I could see it being a hanging planter... different rope, line it with moss and Coco fiber, and voila. Or put a light in it and make it a lamp maybe?
